I am glad that Rep. Bob Ney R-Ohio is not my representative.  I don't pay state/federal taxes for these amazinhunks to sit in Congress and pass legislature about the cafeteria menus.

As an authority on all things retarded, I must say, this ranks right up there with the decision to make an Emeril Lagasse sitcom.

I can’t believe that members of congress would proudly stand and have their photos taken with the signs in the background. This reminds me of the idiot candidate for congress in 1988… proudly walking out of a restroom with a cup of urine with all the press coverage. Thank god he lost the election!

Common sense is becoming uncommon.

Unbelievable!

LOL

OK - they call French Fries now Freedom Fries because of the word "french"?

1st: The fries are from Belgium and not from France. I dont know how and why they called them French Fries instead of Belgium Fries but it sounds far better than "Freedom Fries".

2nd: If these idiots are now renaming all products which have names of nations who are against the war of Bush against Iraq you have to bring out a new Dictionary. That was the bad news.

The good is that this dictionary only needs one letter:

The "F" :

Freedom beans (former French beans)
Freedom-burger (former Hamburger)
Freedom chalk (former French chalk)
Freedom dressing (former French dressing)
Freedom-Freedom-War of 1870 (former Franco-German-War 1870)
Freedom Fries (former French Fries)
Freedom Kiss (former French Kiss)
Freedom-Krieg (former Blitz-Krieg)
Freedom letter (former French letter)
Freedom measles (former German measles)
Freedom polish (former French polish)

and so on...

:D :D :D :D :D

Greetings from the Bundesrepublik of Freedom - neighbour of the Republic of Freedom - both proud members of the old Europe.
:D :D

Man this is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard. It's pathetic mega über crap.

BUT!!!

I'm sorry to say that the French are/where doing the same by banning english words from their vocabulary (long time before the Iraq conflict escalated).
Sure the motivation of the French is different than that of the US.
US is pathetic and the French tried to keep their language ... uhm ... french.

Not exactly Duedel in fact it's just not recommanded to use an english word when an french word can be used instead.

It's to avoid Anglizismen oder Amerikanismen ;)

Yep I know. Here in germany we use Anglizismen way to often. Sometimes its getting rediculous p.e. if a sanitary napkin has an english name :D
But IMHO the French exaggerate this topic.

Is it right that if u use an english sentence in an advertising u have to make a footnote with the french translation?

Fries come from Belgium, not from France. (I mean the "Invention", not the potatoes :))

I've seen that but I don't know if it's a legal obligation.
(at last it's prudent when you know the average english level of the french :D)

On a scale of 1-10, how nuts has the US administration gone?

Well, if 10 is the highest, I'd say 0.

But there will be more to come Dowding. Wait for the fallout if the French use their veto... My bet is that France will soon discover the downsides of trying to act above their size and importance. And they are about to learn an important lesson on why it is stupid to backstab your (former) allies.
