A-10 / OA-10 Fact Sheet

Here's what I have, and its interesting...

According to the book, Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II by Peter C. Smith,

"The core of the A-10's deadly firepower is the A/A 49E-6 gun systen, which has a gross weight of 4,200lb."

"The titanium armored amunition drum, holding 1,174 rounds of ammunition"

"Powered by dual hydrolic rotary motors, each barrel rotates through the firing chanber with rate of fire settings of 2,100RPG or 35 rounds per second, and 4200 rpg, or 65 rounds per second."

"Minimum life expectancy for each set of gun barrels is 21,000 rounds"

Strange really. If you multiply the rounds per second by 65, you get 3900 rounds per minute.

Yet the author uses 4200, which would require a 70 rounds per second rate of fire to achieve.

So not only do our sources contradict each other, the author contradicts himself. I would really like to get the final answer from an A-10 driver.

I don't know...books I've read about air combat say women don't have the natural aggresivity required to be a succesful fighter pilot.

I met a good looking blonde female a-10 pilot at a local air show a few years back.  A bit later my university alumni magazine came to my door with her picture on it.  If the timing had been right, I could've gotten an autograph.

She was married, but she was a hottie.  Athletic build, straight white teeth, big fat diamond on her finger.

Hopefully I can still find those pictures in the ABC News archive for video from Kuwait. Or maybe I will just email ABC and ask them to run that video again. :D

This story about the A-10 that took heavy damage over Baghdad is the one I was referring to a while back. The pilot that Diane Sawyer talked to went by the callsign KC and this is the same chick driving this bird.

I see you've never been married nor had much relations with the female subtype.

You got a whole week of PMS. A whole week of them being mortally injured. Another week of post traumatic stress disorder.

You get one good week a month out of a woman...or 3 good "aggressive" weeks a month out of a fighter pilot. :) Between bouts of crying for no apparent reason.

I can safely say whoever wrote those books never met my ex-girlfriend Kim.

The thought of her carrying a gun,or behind the stick of an F-16 gives me chills.
