Night in the MA? Well, sure, but....
« on: October 19, 2000, 12:38:00 AM »
Yeah...night, ok, whatever. It lasts too short for me to care, really. Make it last longer, it would then be a factor, and I'd have an opinion on it, one way or the other. I just can't seem to get worked up about 10 minutes of darkness.

However...

What I'd like to see just once in AH is overcast. Grey, dreary, dismal overcast.

Doesn't have to be full cloud cover (impossible online)... but turn that nice blue sky to grey now and again...

Especially when we get the boats. There's somethin' just... I dunno... *dramatic* about a carrier pitchin' in the open sea when it's socked in.

All this sun and blue sky... It's just too damn cheery in the arenas sometimes... ya know?

yeah.....and lets face it, it's not as if we *ever* abort a bombing mission due to cloud cover over the target.....

Here is where I miss ATF Gold. Low lying ground fog, bomb dispersion, cloudy days...damn it was great. Too bad the graphics and flight models stunk. Longbow 2 [helo flight sim] even had RAIN! Didn't chew my FPS up that bad, and I've got an antique computer. Wind is something I miss from MS Flight Sim 5.0 [yep, DOS game]. AH wind is only vertical, but the storms in MSFS 5.0 were REALLY nasty! Getting bounced around in high winds kicked butt. Same goes for turbulence and no visibility!

Alas, I can't run any of those games anymore. They either hate my Banshee vid card, or the CDs are in horrid shape.

For the night, I wish that icon ranges would also suffer from it..
It is clear that you're not going to see some dark plane from 4 miles away.
There would come alot help of icons in the night

I hear you Fishu. In WBs I could regularly shoot down the AI-controlled F-15s even in pitch blackness. Those Neon signs helped provide a nice BIG target. I'd say chop the icon range from 6k down to just 2k at night. If anything HTC should put the night back in for event use. Instead of 0530 being dark, it'd get dark at 1900.

It's weather effects I'm waiting for. I doubt we'll ever see ground fog, or heavy turbulence, but a man can dream....

Once the novelty wore off, night became boring.

Or was it just me that noticed the drop in players as night set?

"Bleh night, bbl" on ch2 and 1.

of freaken well man you miss 10 minutes of fun outta like what 5 to 6 hours? so yall just say get rid of it and 80% or more of the community loses the 10 minutes that are the most fun to them. Wish I could snap my fingers like that and get HTC to take inlfight radar off.

If AH had graphics like Il-2, then I would say bring on the night, no icons and realistic airborne radar.

BUT

AH graphics simply aren't that good, so night is just annoying as hell. Unless chasing red icons on a black screen is your idea of fun...

So nobody has an opinion on the fact that since 1989, we've fought every single battle of every single day in clear blue sunny skies? I'm the only person who's noticed this?

Wasn't refering to night, I was refering to the comment that 'AH graphics aren't that good"....besides, that earlier dawn screen shot looks just like the one I saw this morning in Seattle from 5000 feet, anyone else see it?  Looked just like that screen shot.

Really? Was the ZEKE there too?

I just think that the AH graphics engine is lacking some of the nice lighting effects that I would want in a game with night combat.

If it wont cause my frame rate to suffer too badly, I could go for some cruddy flying weather.

Of course the alternative is getting an old spray bottle and filling it with muddy water and spraying your computer screen every 10 minutes or so.  Or maybe a vaporizer in the computer room, turned up on hi.
