Default Attack Planes to Attack Scores
« on: March 27, 2003, 11:04:41 AM »
When I click on the heading "Fighter", the scoring defaults to Fighter. When I click on the column heading "Bomber", the default scoring is for Bomber. When I click on Vehicle, the default scoring is for Vehicles.

When I click on column heading for "Attack" Planes, the default scoring is for Fighter ! Why ? Why would anyone choose a plane from the Attack category but want it scored as a Fighter? There may be a few odd reasons, but it seems obvious that if you are choosing from the Attack category, you would want Attack scoring.
All of the Attack planes appear in the Fighter category anyway, so if you click on Fighter category, you can still choose an Attack type plane.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the hangar, clicked on Attack Planes, chosen  a suitable Attack plane, pounded some mud, and then realized my flight did not count because I forgot to click on Attack scoring, which also means my fighter score went down as well. (A fighter flight with no A-A kills, just mud pounding reduces scores for Kills/Sortie, Kills/Hour, Hit Percentage, ect.)
It's counterintuitive to have to click on Attack Plane, and then Attack score.

This must be a very easy item to change. The coding cannot be very complex.

Nice and simple idea which makes sense.

Personally I never select aircraft that way in the hangar but what you are asking makes total sense..

Dangit!  That help explain why my attack scores are always so low, I never noticed that I had to select Attack both above and below.

Since there are so many dual role aircraft all kills A-A or A-G should count as fighter, and structures/fuel/ack/hangers go to the atack score and could be automatic. this would do away with the need for selecting atack or fighter. Its very anoying to up as fighter and see a bunch of m3,s and know that if you kill them your score gets hurt.    MY 2 cents :)

I haven't seen anything to disagree with in this thread. I too am somewhat dismayed that a fighter sortie that results in a GV kill only hurts your hit %. At least default those kills to one's attack score. I have at least 8 GV kills obtained while flying a fighter sortie. They essentially end up in limbo. Yeah, they show up on the stat page, but hell, that's down too!

very well said ... i totally agree, but unfortunatly last time i heard HT speak on this his thoughts were "keep it like it is" and think before you fly... or something like that
I don't know what to put here yet.

Think of it as the AH equivalent of getting called up in front of your squadron commander after your flight and getting your butt chewed because "..the Army Air Corps spent good time and money training your sorry bellybutton and put you in one of the most modern and deadly fighters in the air to shoot down enemy planes, not to get down in the mud and shoot up trucks, dammit! Do you understand me, Lieutenant?"   :D

Widewing;
Kill GVs when in Fighter Role does not show up on the stats page -- unless you are talking about a stats page I don't know about.  If you take a Fighter and kill 3 GVs and land them, you will get the message that you had 3 kills, but the number of kills in the Fighter Category does not go up by 3.  Your K/D will remain the same since you landed, but your Kills/Sortie, Kill/Hour, Hit Percentage all go down. (I don't know if you get any points for your kills either.)
But that is not what this post is about…

MOSQ;
There is no default scoring. The program remembers how you used/set the Score As the last time you where in the plane.  Selecting a category from the top does not change the Score As option. Try this: Select the All category; pick the P-51B and set to score as Attack; pick the P-51D and set to score as Fighter; select the Fighter category from the top and the P-51B will still be set to score as Attack. You can Quit and restart and P-51B will still be set to score as Attack.

If we are going to differentiate between Fighter and Attack, then every Fighter should also have the option of being an Attacker. For example, I like the option of doing ground attack in a C205. Yet it's only a Fighter.

MachNix,

I just tried your idea, however it didn't work for me. Last night my last flight in a P-38 was in Attack. I just logged on, and you are correct that in the All category the P-38 showed Attack score. But as soon as I clicked on the Fighters category, the P-38 switched to Fighter score. I then clicked on Attackers category, the P-38 continued to score as Fighter.

I then followed your instructions to a "T". I used ALL planes, set the P-51 D to fighter score. I set the P-51 B to Attack. As long as I stayed within the ALL planes category, the P-51B does in fact stay as Attack, and the P-51D as Fighter. As long as you have P-51D or some other plane chosen, the P-51B does in fact stay in attack scoring when you click on Fighters category.  However if you are in the ALL list, and have the P-51B highlighted ( not the P-51D),  as soon as you click on the Fighters category, the P-51B switches to Fighter scoring, not Attack scoring.

So the program does default you to the category chosen, except for some unknown reason it doesn't default the Attackers planes to Attack scoring.

All this could be totally simplified by having the Category auto default the scoring to the same scoring as the category.

qts,
I agree. I like flying the C-205 myself. However the hows and whys of scoring method attack vs. fighter is really another thread.

I just want HTC to fix the category chooses the score. My guess is they could change the default scoring code in a manner of minutes, not hours or days.

Why we have categories and how they should be scored is a whole long discussion in itself.
