On March, 23, they had a referendum and majority voted for their new constitution as a part of Russian Federation.

Ike, Chechens are brave and noble people. Most of them. They are VERY different from us. They indeed are best friends if you earn their friendship and worst enemies. They are manic in keeping their promises.

Interesting fact: Nikolay II personal guards were mostly Chechens.

It's not Chechens we fight. It's terrorists.

Hehe, my district Militia officer is a Chechen.

Why not just leave them alone?  Get out of their country.

First, when it happened to the US - the whole Russia was in shock... Thousands of people brought flowers and candles to the US embassy. At the same time Chechen "freedom fighters" cheered WTC tragedy.

Funny: in one mountain camp they were so happy they started to shoot at the air... Russian howitzers had a good target. 50+ terrorists killed in a few minutes.

And remember: it's OUR country, and we are not going to leave a single acre to terrorists who want to live under Shariat laws, and want freedom - freedom to kill, rape, rob and enslave.

JFYI: more then a half of Chechnya is the "Land of Terek Warriorship", Cossak lands.

methinks russian military leadership has... ummm... issues.

Hang, Russian military do have issues. This losses could be 90% less if not our beloved "human rights" freaks. To get better press it's easier to lose another platoon or company then to answer fire with fire

It's a desperate effort to save "civilians" :( If you make a fool pray - he'll break his forehead.

They need change in the military to prevent more casualties.

O yes, i remembered last year when the fully loaded troops (120) in the Mi-26 chopper was shot down by chechen rebels using RPGs. All of them are perished.

Ike, JFYI: territory of Chechnya is 60 (sixty) times less then Afghanistan.

The problem is that we prepared to fight a full-scale war with NATO, and local war tactics wasn't developed. First years in Afghan taught us a lot. Casualities in 87-88 were very small.

The problem with Chechnya is that commanders have to fight having "human rights" in their head, or they'll be sent to military jury and sentenced. In a situation when US Marines shot down 12 Iraqi women in a van - Russians could probably lose some soldiers in case that "sisters" wore Shakhid belts.

no amount of 'planning' can save that army. either russia turns chechnya over to the chechens and gets the hell outta there (like we're gonna do in iraq) or they will continue to be slaughtered to the tune of 5k a year.

Before you "pacify" Iraq - you'll have the same problems. Unfortunately, you already have them. Any "civilian" can turn into a partizan after the sunset.

Who told you US are going to get out of Iraq?

It's normal to be curious..

But after you see the video you'll wish you didn't.

That video is a wakeup call - these people do not live or follow the western standards. They're an enemy that's capable of doing the unexpected - as seen on 911.

It makes them extremely dangerous.

By the way, that Russian soldier who was executed on the video is not a POW! Instead of capturing him, they killed him right away painfully because the rebels cant afford POWs in their camps and the rebels dont have enough foods to give it to the POWs.

Well, this doesn't prevent them from keeping Russian prisoners as slaves.

They still kidnap bums in Russian cities because they need slaves. There were many interviews with homeless people who were "hired" for a season work for food and vodka, only to find themselves chained in a zindan... This practice started in Soviet times. You see, they had plenty of wide freedoms

Last operation to release slaves took part about a week ago. 10+ people released, their masters arrested, and the - released too! There is no "legislative base" to sue them and send to jail, so the simply had to release slave owners!

That's how "Russian barbarians who came from the East" (c) Sturmbahnfurher Grunherz, violate all the international conventions to murder, rape and plunder poor freedom fighters.

About the video: they make such videos to send them to their sponsors, who need evidence of the real struggle of the "rebels". In fact, since 2000, most of the terrorists are foreign Moslim mercenaries, fighting for money. Like in times when someone (guess who?) payed $1000 for a head of Soviet officer in Afghanistan.
