Ok, I'm gonna get my prettythang full of metal for this, but:

Yes, I'm glad Jessica Lynch is safe, but this incident is just gonna set the entire cause of women in combat back by 30 years. To break it down, she is a soldier and knew the risks when she joined. Capture is always a possibility when you're deployed to hostile territory. You don't see the media hounding the male POWs, do you? I say, we just breathe a sigh of relief, and get on with our lives. Don't be surprised if you don't hear much about women in combat for the rest of the Iraq campaign, though.

Just my two cents...*awaits the first flak burst in the posterior region*

unless something happened recently that I don't know about, there are no male POW's for the media to hound.

She's the only one they got back alive, so far, in a lucky break.

however, I agree, she was a POW she's been rescued, that's great, move on.

but the media will do whatever it thinks will give it the most ratings, and as we know, it has nothing to do with what the people watching want to see regarding this war.

I hope they leave her alone, I wish they'd quit being imbeciles but I doubt it'll happen.

btw that Iraqi walked that journey several times in risk of his own life (returning to get layout intel then returning once again to report what he knew), people have been killed for having any dealings with the Americans.

Not sure how much he's been covered considering what those people get when they show any small favor to us, it was a huge risk for him and his family.

he won't get much media I'm sure (or benefits), because he's Iraqi and non military = boring...it's a shame.

Is it right she is only 19 years old - man thats really young (at least for me (sniff)? How can it come that a 19 year old can be send to a war but is not allowed to drink alcohol?

19 years old isn't that young for a soldier . The average age of the US serviceman in the Vietnam war was 19. Untill very recently you could join the military at 17. Some countries the minimum age is 16 .

What amazes me is how young the LTCs and COLs were in the US Army Air corps in WWII, 22-26 year olds. Heck I don't think you'll find a LTC nowadays that doesn't have head of gray hair and kids in college, or in the military .

I posted earlier about Jessica Lynch and said she should not be in combat.  I was wrong.  This girl is 'hardcore' for a lack of a better term.  Not only did she perform much better than her male counter-parts (by shooting/killing several Iraqis), she lived through the encounter.

I think General Patton would have been proud of her.  She did not surrender, and was only captured after she had shot several Iraqis and exhausted her ammunition.  I've heard reports that she was shot, and reports that she wasnt.  Whatever the case, she was wounded (two broken legs, smashed arm, and no feeling in her feet).

But oh boy, is her dad ever a hillbilly...

Maybe in Australia but in the US in most? states its 21.

Hard to believe that these ragheads can do anything right or honourable, eh Suave?

Check out Wulfie's old posts describing how Pakistani agents were putting their lives on the line to bring Al Queda suspects to justice. You might find it interesting.
