I just got a good deal on a XP PRO OEM copy for $118 shipped.

Anything bad about using XP PRO OEM?

XP Pro is a great OS, but some people seem unable to objectively rate the OS simply because of who makes it.

XP Pro is the best operating system I have used since Novell DOS 7.  It is powerful, has great features, and my games run great under it.  Oh, and I have gone for weeks without rebooting, something I could never claim on many OSs that came between MS-DOS 6.22 and XP.

first version microsoft has ever put out that was decent.

i still get lots of lock ups but alot of times they dont require reboots. it finds almost all drivers automaticly and you can now build comps wiout floppy disks . yea its great and that is a good price.

now what data the dang thing sends to microsoft is a matter of debate and is somthing im not happy with.

Using the XP pro now over 18 Months. Never any problems, relative solid (every system can crash  )
For work mostly using Debian Linux, but as it was said, XP is a very good OS.
The only thing i dislike, is that XP like to phone home. But by using xp-antispy (a free download) this problem is solved.

XP is bloated, butt ugly and clumsy OS. It has way too many automatic 'features' which do nothing but make your life harder and eat system resources.

If I have to install XP to a box, I have to spend half an hour disabling unnecessary and resource wasting 'features' from it and it still won't reach the level of W2k in functionality.

As if that wouldn't be enough, XP sports quite a few of the worst security problems, some of which no remedy is still not available.

I'd take W98 over XP anytime. You actually paid for it? :)

Sounds more like Windows Millenium to me.  I find it amusing that you consider Windows 98 more secure then XP, but there's no need to let facts get in the way of a good old-fashioned rant.  :p

Nothing bad about using it on a gaming machine, but it's immoral to pay for it.  Shame on you.

Actually i have been running it for a while now but i just decided to get my self a legit copy so i bought and OEM version for $118 (shiiped) the question was is there and difference from the retail box version and the OEM version? - besides not getting the document and manuals.

Yes it has the Certificet Of Authenticity

XP PRO OEM $118
retail $300-$400

$118 i can swing at that price

Chairboy the only difference between w98 and XP security is that 98 doesn't claim to be the most secure OS ever made. XP does.

And we all know that's a load of crock.

When I was saying I'd take 98 over XP anytime, I meant every other aspect than security, which obviously lacks in both.

Getting to your question

The difference between OEM and retail is support. Retail allows you to call and try and get help for your problem

OEM means you deal with it yourself

Personally calling MS unless its a server related problem is virtually no help at all since it's always "some other" software causing the problem
