They're just trying to prevent some filthy commie rat from using their shrine as a pulpit for his anti-American ravings.  They're willing to risk some bad PR from the liberal media (the beginnings of which can be seen in the second link) in order to show support and solidarity to their fellow Americans.

seems like the ones with balls are the people that speak out against the war, since there are alot more violent pro war nut jobs out there.

Hmmm haven't seen any pro-war riots.  Plenty of anti-war riots though.  It's pretty clear which side is more violent.

yes but how many people were hurt during said riots. I know i was personally threated on the streets all the time when i a "give peace a chance" t-shirt even before the war started.
