I live in Europe and also England. Weird, eh?

I work with several nationalities at work too. Mainly British but a lot of French, a few Germans. I go on holiday to Europe mainly, I sometimes go to Malaga for a day on the beach and I once went to Barcelona just for a saturday night.

I consider myself European. But I also consider myself British - the two aren't mutually exclusive to me.

I think britain has so much more in common with Canada, USA, Australia and i would much rather Britain be associated with them, rather than europe

I'm not slating your opinions; I was just challenging the facts on which they are based.

We may have more in common with Canada, Australia and the US (after all we founded them), but I think the last 50 years has ironed out many of the differences that obstructed further integration. Vive la difference, mais sur bien (;)), but I think what divides us is small in comparison to what we share.

Most of europe did not agree with Bush's ideas, so it was easy for Germany and France to get out and speak.

Some goverments are "for the war", but majority of citizens didn't agree with it.
Spain being  good example of this.

It's pathetically sad what all anti-germany/france stuff this has created in US when they don't agree with the war.
They are their own nations and US doesn't have one bit of a voice there to tell what to do.
They act for the good of their own interests, like the US.
If thats bad.. well.. too bad.. I don't agree with lots of things US does, but I'm not exactly reacting the same way US population is.

and some faults european forum chatters as anti-american :p

It has nothing to do with not agreeing with the war.  It has to do with the fact that even when they knew the US was going to war, they still did everything they could to make the war as militarily costly as possible.   For example using Turkey's desire to join the EU as leverage against allowing the US to use Turkey as a base of operations.   Combine that with the fact that most Americans don't believe that the French, German, and Russian governments were acting out of a genuine interest in peace, and you can see why Americans do not consider these governments to be friendly.

And the anti-American movements in Europe make the anti-European sentiment in America look pathetic in comparison, maybe that's what you are getting at.

I dont understand where you see all this Anti-Americanism.

Being here, I dont see all this hate you are accusing us to have.

Yes, there are some, a little percentage, as in the rest of the world, but nothing more than the average in western countries.

Well.... if you consider "disagreeing" as "being Anti", "critics" as "Enemies".... it's another matter.

Still a little number, tho.

You know?

You will be surprised that the bigger group is....

the "dont care/no opinion" group! :)

I see far more anti-european comments, especially low-class name calling 'euro trash' etc. coming from the americans of this board.

For the europeans it's enough to disagree with the american policy on the war, or (even funnyer) disagree with the personal opinnion of some US poster to be labeled liberal and anti-american.

Ever since France decided not to support US war plans, the media in the US started releasing columns that were strongly against France and that molded the general opinnion of the US people amazingly fast it seems. From ally to the second worst enemy after Saddam.. It's hilarious really.

If you guys would know something about France, you'd realise they're not anti-american.. They're anti-anything outside France. They've always been.

They're proud of thier heritage and they fight to conserve it with the influx of American mass media and products.

Perhaps they don't realise that no American products can be imported unless someone over there buys them.
