I am NOT a European.
« on: April 14, 2003, 06:36:43 AM »
Rather than try, yet again, in vain to explain to a Yank that calling someone a Euro like it's a dirty word isnt exactly the most intelligent insult on the planet simply because so many different people can claim to be European.........instead I renounce all claims to being a Euro / European / Continentalist / etc......not that I ever claimed to be European in a particularly loud voice anyway.......

I'm NOT a Euro.

I'm British (and proud of it).

Now that that's all sorted out feel free to carry on insulting the Euro's as you see fit......although I'm sure more than a few may start to point out that they are in fact not a "Euro" but Dutch / Belgian / Spanish / Italian / etc.

See....you guys dont care what State you're from, it doesnt matter cos you're all Americans.......same flag, same language, same leader.

It aint like that in Europe......

Having moved about most of my life, I don't feel attached to any country in particular. ('xcept if we talk Beer). Don't look here for any patriotism for one piece of soil or another... they all smell differently, but taste the same. I've had to pay taxes everywhere I went too.

"Yurop" is good for transactions & business exchanges here, but that's about it.

A lot of the lumping is a result of Germany and France presenting themselves as the voice of Europe without a lot of objection.

I am NOT a European either.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

I am an European. You see, being related to the space industry here in Europe gives you another perspective. I'm used to talking to people from France, Germany, Italy, UK, Austria (... the list goes on) and working as a team.

Do I feel European? You bet.

Takeda, I may have to borrow your avatar to make my point clear ;)

One thing is who powers that be want to align with, other is how individiuals feel. I, myself, feel that way.

i don't see myself as a european.  But then again Britain as a whole seems somewhat reluctant to be fully involved in europe (refusing to join the euro, single military force etc.)  i remember when the channel tunnel was built there were some protests, because they considered it joining mainland europe.

I think britain has so much more in common with Canada, USA, Australia and i would much rather Britain be associated with them, rather than europe
