I love the game, but I have to agree here.  I shot an la5 yesterday.  (3) 30mm shots to the right wing.  He ended up turning behind me and shot me down.  Granted I got to fast and kind of messed up, but come on 3 30mm shells to the same wing?  All at about 100m range or less.  I really love this game now that they fixed the 109 FM so it can BnZ like it should.  190's still a pig, but it may be that i haven't figured out how to work the prop pitch and stuff right.  I've seen one dude do awesome stuff in the a5.

It's got a few little things that bother me, but over all it's the best boxed sim I've ever owned.  The graphics are simply mind blowing...

All I saw in the dogfight rooms were yaks and hurri's.  Guess they turn the best, but I have only about 3 hours total in the game.

I say yes, get it, you will enjoy it.

Another thing is that it has excellent TrackIR support. 2nd generation, TrackIR enhanced, that is. No more mouse emulation, mouse is now independent of TrackIR, while the latter is used soleley for view control. IMO, it is superior to both snap and padlock views.

I found FB totally unrealistic in battles..

I have all realism set to max, but the enemy often stays in slow turns while I'm 100 meters behind them, just waiting for me to blow them out of the sky.

If that's AI they sure aint very smart. The forgotten battles are at least 50% easyer than online battles in AH. Also the hyperlobby seems to have a very low quality online players, no real fights there. I've died only from vulches so far.

Has anyone else noticed that the FM has been dumbed down?

No torque in takeoffs, for example.

Try this, any plane: Go full throttle and let go of the rudder... yep, it stays centered on the runway all the time.

Hope they fix it.

Bad points, IMO:

Some bugs with certain planes, causing max performance at less than 110% with auto pitch control on (German planes). Will be fixed in a patch.

Ground control and modelling somewhat strange.

Somewhat optimistic control response at low speeds for all planes.

No dedicated servers and quality online play. Maybe that's why it is called an offline sim, hmmm.

Game gets slow online, offline it runs smooth (800 MHz Duron here, details all maxed).

Good points:
Many flyable planes and versions, some modeled for very first time in a sim.

Very good DM, FM and graphics. German, Russian, Finnish, Russian, US voices, British otw, adds a lot to immersion.

Incredible attention to detail, even at the cost of gameplay.

User developed skins, but also planes.

Yes, dynamic campaign, following historical battles.

Frankly, I never bothered with it - I enjoy QMB (quick mission builder), trying out all possible plane matchups. You can define types, numbers, AI skill, initial advantage, skins for individual planes, loadouts etc.

There's also complex mission editor.

You can get a taste of the sim from the official board:

thanks for this tip - makes a big difference

FB is a very good sim, however it needs a huge patch. ASAP.
The enemy AI behave like Superman, Spiderman and Dare Devil all togheter. Your wingmen behave just the opposite.

The FM needs tons of tweaks and fine tuning. Same thing for the CEM.

The AI controlled planes, due to limited average CPU power, have a simplified FM. Now you understand why you cannot catch up with your wing leader or sometimes you see AI planes maneuvering like rockets.

Oleg Maddox did a good job but the job is unfinished. It is UBI Soft fault, obviously. Not enuff time to debug the sim, not enuff bucks to finance the developer team.

Theres nothing like flying online with excellent sims like AH or Warbirds, with very good flight models and real human intelligence (well, Rooks and Bishops apart ;) :))
