Is this an example of American expansionism?  Something to that effect.  Anyway Collin Powell answered.
Many times Americans have left their country to defend the freedom of others, and the only land we have asked for in return was enough to bury our dead...to bury those who could not return.

Europeans.....take a look......how many Americans are buried in your countries?  Those Americans that could not return defending your freedoms.  Many Americans buried in the Pacific also. And the Oceans of the world.

When Iraq is stable.....Americans will again be back in their country, where we Americans want and need them.

No flag waving in this post.......just a fact that all of us know to be true.

fact is....NOT only Americans died on Foreign soil...your only thinking Americans did...as usual your arrogance surpasses the whole truth....

you say black and white....either for or against.....then ask Haliburton why it gave Saddam 100$ million in the year 2000.....legal you will say.....I still say 100$ million in Saddams coffers.....well up yours chump...you WILL not dictacte my conduct.....let me repeat.....you WILL NOT DICTACTE MY CONDUCT.....and you surely WILL not dictacte the conduct of 6 Billion people.....wishful thinking on your part....

300 million people see you as liberators of Iraq.....

4 Billion see you as Invaders of a Sovereign Nation.....

Blitz...I'm with ya bud.....not all of us are completely blind to the whole truth:eek:

Much to the dismay of the french UN representatives, who said they would veto ANY use of force .

The UN in it's current state is ineffectuall as a law enforcement organization .

SLO is titled to his opinion as we are ours.

However SLO I didn't say we...that US dictate anyones opinions.

Wonder if anyone besides the US suffered a terrorist attack such as the magnitude of 911?  The answer is no.  So most people around the world don't really know how the US population views terrorism as the US does.  Israel does on a daily basis but at much smaller proportions...and here's hoping peace can be achieved betweeen Israel and the Arab States.

SLO...I'll back your right to say anything you want my friend.  But unless you've walked in the shoes of others....you don't have an idea how they feel.

911 was the first time in History that the mainland was attacked. American citizens don't want that to happen again....and we as citizens will back any move by any president to secure our national safety.

Most of the world throughout modern History (last 300 years or so) has looked to the US as a land of opportunity.  Many migrated to our shores from all regions of this planet.  We are a diverse society....more so then Europeans by a long shot.  We are European, African, Asian, Christian, Moslem and Jew.  We live together and play together.  We have the best of all worlds because we are such a diverse group.  Those who migrated here setup this Govt. and Country so that no one can trample on the inherant rights of man.....Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion etc.  Most of the world comes to the US for higher education....our Universities are packed with many from around the world to take advantage of our education system.  Many from around the world come here for medical treatment, The Cleveland Clinic...Mayo Clinic etc.  Ask yourself why that is!  Is that because we are evil?  Is that because we have no respect for others?  On the contrary...the American people are the most benevolent in the world.  When a disaster strikes anywhere in the world you'll see the US to be among the first to help or offer help...that's the American people.  And we suffer such disasters few if any offer assistance.....Japan is one who always offers assistance!  Guess what....we helped setup Japans constitution......they certainly have grown econmically since WW2......Guess what....we helped Germany setup it's Govt. after WW2....methinks they are certainly better off now then pre WW2 when it tooka wheelbarrow load of marks to purchase a loaf of bread.

We don't want credit or accolades.  We don't ask for any, and we certainly don't receive any.  Tha'ts ok...we like our country as you like yours.  But please don't insinuate what America is going to do in Iraq after the war.  If past performance is any barometer, we help rebuild, we rebuilt Germanys and Japans Industry after WW2.  Some of you never heard of the Marshall plan or you wouldn't be spewing garbage.  And we think it's great that our biggest competitors in heavy Industry is Japan and Germany!  We helped them get there!  We will help install democracy with Gods help in Iraq...or any reasonable Govt. that the Iraqis wish!  And just as in Japan and Germany.....when democracy is installed.  I'm sure that the citizens of Iraq...just as in Germany and Japan, will think...What the hell were we doing before?

Just my humble opinion....don't wish to step on anyones toes or thoughts......I'll just present the facts as they are and let you be the Judge.

Slo is so French!
« Reply #39 on: April 16, 2003, 11:27:56 AM »
Slo is from Quebec, right,  French Quebec?  Chretian's Quebec? In a country governed by the son in law of the head of the major French oil company that has been profiteering illegally from the oil-for-food program?  Still curious as to Slo's motivations?

From my Canadian friends, and I know quite a few, I understand that there was overwhelming popular support for the Iragi liberation, but the expatriat French government ignored what that public wanted.

So, now who is controlling your conduct Slo?
It isn't your Southern neighbors who would gladly let your countrymen into our nation if you weren't the single largest entry point into America for international criminal terrorists!

Finally, your pitiful implied attempt to trade on the heritage of those many brave Canadians who have stood and died in the past against tyranny is pathetic.  Your  government's current spineless and cowardly inaction, motivated not by some utopian sense of international order but only to protect French perfidy in Iraq, besmerches the memory of those fine and courageous heros.

Fine, fine post Hajo!  Damn proud of ya!

Few in the world can understand how we feel, and not just because we were attacked so viciosuly, but because we are so conflicted about how to protect ourselves while maintaining the very liberties that make us the shining beacon for most of the world, and indeed, those same liberties that were used against us to murder over 3,000 people who, incidentally were not just American, but also citizens from over 60 other countries as well.

But, why apologize for stepping on people's toes.  That's only apologizing for telling the truth!

FACT: American's And Canadians and Australians DID NOT HAVE TO BE THERE dying on the beachs.

We volunteered to come to the aid of our allies from an agressor nation, to protect our interests, and EUROPES FREEDOM!

We volunteered. Were we threatened by Nazi Germany in any way? Not militarilty. Possibly eventually, but 2 massive oceans made an invasion quite impossible.

Now, we took Iraq to protect our interests, and FREE THE IRAQI people. We also did it to secure western civilization from more terrorist attacks.

4 Billion see us as invaders? I don't care HOW THE WORLD SEE'S US. How did these 4 billion people see us before 9/11?  Were they looking out for us? Did they come to our aid? Did they help bury our dead?

The answer is NO. This is our deal, not yours. We're handling it our way.

You got a problem with it? Then get the balls up and come stop us. Ask the UN for a resolution demanding we leave Iraq now. I'm sure that will make all the difference.

When someone comes up to Canada and blasts a building and 3000 people off the face of the Earth, then you can talk. But until then, step aside, and let your big southern brother handle this one.
