I dunno, I see it more as a means to make Syria play by our rules (stop supporting terrorists, don't allow Saddam's men safe haven, and etc..)...

Oil is a lot of countries life blood in the middle east, not allowing them access to it forces them to play by the civilized world's rules.

The UN mandate says that is illegal.  Remember, the UN is supposed to have a monopoly on all Iraqi oil.

Just what are you reading into this?

I agree.. and think this is a good use for such control...

however, I can see where a large part of the world, especially those that don't have 'open minds', would see this as the real reason for our being there.

personally I think this is exactly what you say.. a way to get them to act civilized.
that's the 'laugh' part of my comment :)

I completely agree with you that there will be a lot of people who will see this (either themselves or hear about it through hearsay) and be in the protesting lines with new signs remarking about control over the oil.... or worse I may actually have to hear someone remark about it in person with some additional fictional "facts" thrown into the mix to "support" their assertion.

Ah, what an interesting world we live in. :)

Not our rules, Just our enforcement!

It think it is an appropriate attempt to force Syria to follow, not our rules, but rules of basic human decency which flatly renounces terrorism as a means of obtaining one's goals.  You are either against terrorism or you are not.  It's one of those few black and white issues.  Terrorism must be stopped, anywhere it is found.   As GWB said, if you are for terrorism, if you support terrorism, you will pay a heavy heavy price.  What we just showed the world was that we are willing to make that stick!  Syria must disgorge anything or anyone it has that supports any form of terrorism, including the Iraqi weapons stores and self-exiled Iraqi leadership.

Yes. i'm one of them.

After getting  total control of the middle-east oil the blackmailing will start.

Don't think it can be in any other countries interest to have one country sitting on the oil .

Strongest millitary on the planet with as many WMDs like stars in the sky and nearly total control of the oil. Good night world :(

Black and White.

Love and Hate.

Good and Evil.

We need a balance in the world.

Having one country dominate this world is the absolutely worst i can think off.   George Orwell comes to mind.

America was threatened by Iraq in no way, it was just plain rediculous .

Umm don't ya think that if America was into the blackmail game we'd say something like.  Do what we say or we'll nuke your country and kill everybody in it?

These people's logic amazes me.   You can't imagine what your part of the world would be like if America acted even partialy the way you think we do....

 BTW, I thought you left?

"Do what we say or we'll nuke your country and kill everybody in it?"

It will be a little bit more smart than that, please don't underestimate Propaganda my friend, the consequences will be the same, though.   prettythanglicking!

Germany already did the last centuries, no WMD thread needed, just a guilt complex  :D

Thank you, your government  already showed it's face prior to the Iraq war.

Don't want to see more of it's blackmailing.

Regards Blitz

that oil was being pumped into syria in violation of the UN's "oil for weapons" program, the US is just doing what the UN says, just like 1441.

so I guess you'd prefer the recent state of affairs?

evil dictator that opresses his people controls the oil, every country for themselves... = CHAOS

I thought you (Bliz) were in favor of the United Nations?
you know, where one organization controls the world....
