Tattoo or not to Tattoo...
« on: April 17, 2003, 11:58:57 AM »
I'm 32 years old, a Financial Advisor, a father, and a husband.

Can some one please explain this overwhelming desire to get a Tattoo fo the first time in my life?

And does anyone know where I can view pics of tattoos to get some ideas?

Not everyone is like you funked ;)

I think its a sign of failing masculinity and the subconcious urges to recover it:

First tattoos..

then viagra...

then rubbers with support beams...

Hmmm...a bit young to have a mid-life crisis, but the sysmptoms are there;)

You are a financial advisor...if you get one make sure your clients can't see it.  Don't go getting one on your neck or anything.

What are your wife's feelings on the subject?

I like the Celtic bands personally...but everyone and their sister has one now so it isn't exactly original.

Muck;
Been following your posts recently.  You seem educated, bright and articulate.  I've come to respect your point of view.
Don't go disappointing me now and getting a tatoo!!

If you want to be an individual, the best thing you can do is not have a tattoo.

You really think it's a Mind-life crisis, Curv? Whats the other symptoms?

I was thinking about getting an armband where they could make it so the design would be from my daughters name.

Many things change in life, but a fathers love for his daughter is constant. (Notice how I would not consider getting my wife's name)

I agree that it cannot be seen, so it would have to be subtle, and easily concealed by a business suit.

Syz, you are very kind.

Dowding may be right, though. It may be more original NOT to get one.

How long do I have until I reach "Viagra" stage BTW? :D

Muck...I'm not sure bud...just a thought.   But, tatoos are a vanity thing for the most part...to look tough, or to look cool..and not for the benefit of other guys...for the benefit of women, especially as they are so popular these days.

Other symptoms include:

The need to have a new sports car.
Consideration of cosmetic surgery.
NOT considering your wife's name for a tatoo.  ;)

I like the arm band idea re your daughter btw.

It would be almost impossible for me to hide tatoos from my clients.  Part of the schmoosing we do is to take clients swimming, diving, jet-skiing etc.  I'd have to put any tatoo in a totally inconspicuous spot on my body...which only my wife would see....thereby defeating the whole purpose of a tatoo.
:D

Muckmaw, if you have an overwhelming desire to get a tattoo, you must have one in mind. What might that be?

Please tell me it isn't a dagger on your lower leg or arabic writing accross the small of your back, or a pair of blue birds on your pectoral?

I've got a jail-house type tattoo from my childhood that I've probably spent 100,000 cubic feet of air in explanations to people when my shirt sleeve rides up too far. I hope you don't have to do that...
