Just starting out-help!
« on: April 19, 2003, 02:02:33 AM »
I just downloaded the game and have been flying around a little in offline mode to get the hang of it before I go online and I just cant figure out how to get started! Is there someone out there that can give me the step by step instructions to the basics. I have read through the help files with no luck. Any help out there would be appreciated!

With what exactly are you having problems?

A basic progression would be

1 - Learn to take off and land.

2 - Learn to shoot the orbitting planes from all angles.

3 - Visit the Training arena for more advanced training.

I have most of the flying down- I dont understand the objective as far as setting up the maps and what or how you set up missions-I just keep flying around with no enemy air contact just the land based guns after I fky to section on the map. After you run out of ammo or get low on fuel I fly back to where I started but its like it wont let me land because the landing gear wont come down-things like that. I know I sound stupid asking this but I am lost! (All this is under offline play)

Hi jvp,
As far as offline goes there is no game/objectives it's just a practice area. The 4 orbiting drones will not shoot back and are just there for target practice. the only things which will shoot at you are the enemy anti aircraft guns (At the red fields) and if you find a railway track going to an enemy field chances are you will find a train supplying that field These also have anti aircraft guns and will shoot at you. So will enemy fleets.

Online is where the action is. Use your 2 free weeks wisely (Ask for a trainer when you 1st log on).

As for not being able to lower you U/C chances are you probably did not raise it quick enough after takeoff and ripped it off. You will hear a "Groaning noise" just before it happens (Usually at about 160mph but some planes like F4U's can exceed this by quite a margin).

down load the help file.  print the whole thing out.  put it in a binder.  read it & pilddle offline.  go to training arena.  ask for a trainer.  after you've gained some facility, go to main arena a bit.

Either that, or you are trying to lower gear at high speed.... slow right down before attempting to lower your gear.  :)

Many thanks to all those who have responded, I will keep trying! From what I have read and seen so far, this looks like the best game I have run across. I have one other question-whenever I am in a hard turn or climbing I get a static over my speakers- is that normal or is it something to do with my sound card?

when you say static , do you mean a buzzing sound? thats your stall warning, it means you need more speed or you will stall and fall out of the sky,(it's more complicated. but that will do for now).
when you hear that buzzing lower your nose or ease the turn.

speed for most planes on final approach to the runway,( thats when you line up with the runway and are going to land) is about140- 150mph, don't try to land faster or lower you landing gear above 150mph,use your flaps as needed, when your over the runway you should be about 110-120 , then ease up the nose.

find your rate of climb-desent dial on your panel, on final, "2' is good (thats 2000 feet per min) land at less than "1".

<> JPV (that means "salute")

Welcome to the game, you are going to love it!!!  I see you are looking for help; I am online every night, barring any major catastrophe.  I would be glad to give you a hand if you like.  You can find me in the Main Arena, I am a Rook.  Look me up if you are interested.  We can go to the training arena.

WEP=War Emergency Power.

It is like a "boost" that burns for a limited time.

If you see me up and have questions just holler.

Welcome to AH.

Before you do anything though I suggest you take some time to learn the view system in AH.  SA (situational awareness) is THE MOST imporatnt thing in this game in the MA.  Without knowing where you are and what is around you at all times you are going to get waxed often.

You must set the view preference for each plane...it only takes a few seconds and once set on a particular plane it will remain that way.

On the number pad on your keyboard press the "2" button.  This is the "look back" view.  Currently, depending on which plane you are in, you will be looking directly at your seat.  Now, while holding the "2" button down press the "Page up" key.  You will notice that the view starts to get better.  Then, still pressing the "2" key, use the arrows to change the view horizontally.  When you have the view where YOU want it it the "F10" key to save that head postion for that view.  Then set the "1" key and "3" key views to where you want them in the same way...holding down the "3" key, for example, and using the page up, page down and arrow keys to get it to where you want it.  You must hit F10 to save your preference each time.

Once you have these views set using the keypad you can then use the hat on your joystick to look around you with the new settings.

If you have any more questions e-mail me at mrwolf_riaz@yahoo.com.  There is NO such thing as a stupid question so don't worry about asking anything.

See ya up,

Curval

I also recommend  spend some time to learn Snap view system inside out.

Pratice first level turns without looking forward. Then practice some Basic Flight Maneuvers (BFM) like Loop, Split-S, Immelman, and Barrel Rol.

Its essensial skill that you maintain visual contact to the enemy and same time  Maneuvering in effective way.

You can record your flying with ALT+R key command. When recording is On, you can see red R at left hi corner of the screen.

And yes....

WELLCOME!
