wow...just spent 15 minutes (i think) reading through this entire thread...this has to be the longest agreement thread ever...

anyone else notice that in the original 3 the dogfight scenes (that IS what they are) seem a lot similar to most films about ww2  dogfights

the only real fault i can find in the first 3 is the pathetic ack bursts from the deathstar...

the first 2...dont even get me started...aside from pathetic acting(EVEN R2D2 wasnt true to his original character)  a story line that would make a insomniac sleep, bad attempts at making the bloody thing look real, and pod racing...the only really interesting part in both new movies is watching palpatine come to power...that and yoda kicking bellybutton wich still is pathetic considering he is the most powerfull jedi in the universe...the fact that there lightsaber duels are based on popular misconceptions about medival swordfights...to top it all off they made a terrible movie worse by adding a pathetic attempt at a character...this movie isnt even good for nostalic purposes...

and thats just scratching the surface

I pretty much agree, but I do like that Lucas manages to create a nice undercurrent about Palpatine's rise to power that a lot of people missed in Episode I.

Sure, the movie kinda sucked when you look at Jar Jar Binks, the kiddy humor, the bad acting, the lame droids, the cartoony look and feel to it, the bad space battles, and more.  But underneath all that, the movie's pretty dark.  Palpatine plays both sides for fools to his own ends and winds up obtaining everything he desires.  Tack on the seemingly happy ending that mirrors Episode IV and it's even funnier when you consider that the only real winner was the bad guy.  Suckers.

They're cartoonish and silly, and I still enjoyed them(except for Jar-Jar and those friggin' Ewoks).

Having said that, after watching Anakin in episode II,I know now where Luke's whinyness comes from.

He's got a good argument. He basically shoots holes in Lucas' universe. I enjoyed it anyway...

"Plus the CGI makes it so unrealistic,"

Nah, Yoda was one of the best actors SW2 :)...and look at the Gollum performances in LOTR. (And you would be amazed to see how many digital doubles there is in Two Towers).
It's very simple...Lucas can't direct for **** anymore. It isn't just the CGI..it's *everything*...editing, acting, story, the lot, that's bad. He's still good at the getting the right ideas, but he should stick to that role and not run around playing director.

Well. the force has great power over the weak minded. The article has nothing to do with the story of the first 3 movies. He invents most of his points.
Not that there is great consitancy to the story as told by Lucas. But the wholes this guy sees are fabricated by him.

But the most compelling evidence that the Empire isn't evil comes in "The Empire Strikes Back" when Darth Vader is battling Luke Skywalker. After an exhausting fight, Vader is poised to finish Luke off, but he stays his hand. He tries to convert Luke to the Dark Side with this simple plea: "There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you. . . . Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy." It is here we find the real controlling impulse for the Dark Side and the Empire. The Empire doesn't want slaves or destruction or "evil." It wants order.

I hope that's not your proof of this guy poking holes in Star Wars.  :)  I can point out any number of inconsistencies with what we know about the characters and plot in the movies.

Here's a hint:  Vader was telling Luke what he thought would work best to convert him to the Dark Side.  It's a lie.

And another:  The Empire began when then-Chancellor Palpatine orchestrated a galactic war that would not otherwise have occured without him.  He then used that conflict to consolidate power in the name of creating "order."  In other words, the Empire's desire for order comes about by the Emperor's own designs to create chaos and war.  Where order exists, the Emperor encourages more chaos in order to "enforce" order.

It's evil!  What do ya expect?

Sandman. If you want to present your own insights into the story Id be happy to discredit them. But if your just going to parrot the silly meanderings of that idiot I will just say the whole thing is silly.
