Starwars, and George Lucas.

When I was a kid, the Star wars movies where my all time favorites.

I saw Star wars in 77 when I was 3, and it was my favorite movie, I used to watch it after we got a VCR like once a day during the summer.

I had all the toys, and my friends and I played with the action figures more then any other toys. (maybe Lego's could have competed)

When Jedi came out, I remember standing in line at the movies, for hours, lol and the line wrapped around the building.

I loved this stuff, Star wars was a huge part of my childhood, yet I still enjoyed them as I got older. I have them all on tape.

I have come to loath George Lucas though. This loathing is tainting my feelings about the first three movies.

It started with Episode one, and his pandering to little kids, the whole movie was crap, I think maybe 20 minutes of it was worth watching. The whole aniken skywalker thing was terrible? Who wants to watch a movie about a dorky little kid? He aimed the movie at little kids, whom for the most part do not know or care what star wars is! He real fans are my generation and older, the people who grew up on this stuff, and he knifed us all in the guts with this little dork, and Jar jar. I own some bad DVDs, like Joe dirt, but I will not own episode one.

Then move onto episode two, a better movie yes, but still a kids movie. Compared with the LOTR series these movies are jokes.

I have also heard that Movies like the Indiana Jones series are being delayed to DVD because Lucas and Spielberg want to mess with them... That pisses me off.. I want to watch Dr. Jones get into trouble with those damn Nazi's again, and I hate having to do it on VHS, bastards!!

Why has Lucas betrayed those who liked Star wars, so he could pander to six year olds? Why oh why does he not understand why everyone hates Jar Jar? WTF?

Why has he made Star wars a Joke, and soiled the old good movies?

Is it just me who feels this way?

Well Gto,

As we get older, we revert to the ways of our parents...

"Sure don't make em like they used to"

"You call that music?"

The list goes on...  I'm guilty of it myself.

After the first movie the Star Wars series changed from a film to an advertisement for merchandise.  All downhill from there.

Oh, I forgot to say....

I thought Episode one and two really sucked except for a few great fight scenes.  I agree with SLO, I think Anakin looks gay in the new movies.

I agree that Ep 1 sucked, expecially that Jar Jar crap.  I don't go to animated movies and don't want animation at all.  ie I hate Roger Rabbit!

The first three episodes are Lucas' attempt to hook yet another whole generation of movie goers.  perhaps he think that those that get into Episode 1 will then go see 4 5 and 6. Which they did.
That way, he's got two whole generations looking forward to Episode 3 as well as 7 8 and 9.

But, I only care about Skywalker and SOlo anyway because like you I saw it in the 70's.  It will be interesting to see what he does with thsoe characters in eps 7,8, and 9.  I hope he doesn't try to develop whole new character sets ala Frank Herbert and his several follow ons to Dune, i.e Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, etc.

Empire was the last good star wars movie, Jedi wasn't that good IMO except for the final Vader/Luke duel. Come on little furry things with sticks and stones defeated the empire.

You mean after the "second" movie, right?  Empire was the best.

LOL... you all are funny.

None of the movies were worth a dam regarding dialog or intricate story line. They were just fun stuff. Go watch the 1977 version again. I think they've stayed pretty true to form. Empire was the best of the lot though.

Furry little things with sticks and stones didnt defeat the empire.

My face SW scene is seeing chunks of ewok flying about. :D :D

The way I understand it Lucas did the first Star Wars for next to nothing personally.  But, in his contract it was stipulated that he would have exclusive rights to any sequals as well as rights to all merchandising on subsequent films.  The producers of the original Star Wars agreed to this as they were getting a quailty guy on the first film for a "song".  At the time the first film wasn't even made yet and there was no guarentee that it would be a hit with movie goers.

Lucas was simply a very smart forward looking cookie.

...and I'm sure he feels really bad that he upset you Gto..everytime a huge chunk of change hits his account he cries openly..and deeply...for sure.

I think its the actors. The new actors are no where near as captivating as ole Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher. ect. Plus the CGI makes it so unrealistic, you think you're watching a cartoon.  At least with the old monster makeup you had substance, an actual actor.

If you want Star Wars IV-VI or Indy Jones 1-3 on DVD, go to http://www.megadiscs.iwebland.com/  They're all quality xfers from laser disc and cheap too.  Good substitutes until the real deal comes out.
