The Two Towers was a good movie, but it was a disappointing departure from Tolkein. I hope the RotK will attempt to stay similar to the books.

Supposedly it's going to follow the book.  I agree with ya, it's a good movie if you don't mind the "revisions."  I don't mind the little changes (like in FOTR with Arwen rescuing Frodo instead of Glorfindel, I think) or leaving out Tom Bombadil.  However, Elves in Helm's Deep?  The entire Frodo/Sam/Gollum/Faramir story after Gollum is captured in the pool?  The Elves I could almost stomach.  The rest was just too much.  Faramir wanting the ring, and taking Frodo and Sam with him.  Frodo freaking out on Sam to the point of almost running him through with Sting.  Nope.  didn't like it one bit.     Sheesh, the least he coulda done was not end it when it did and get to Shelob!  :D

Heh, I love Star Wars, but there's not one scene/sequence in all of the series that compares to Moria from FOTR.  Not even Yoda going all Jackie Chan on Count Dooku!  ;)

This is a fantastic idea.  Open it in Tokyo - the Japs LOVE theme-based stuff.  Sake on tap, large breasted gaigens (sp?) and lightsabers... I smell in investment opportunity.  ;)

The first scene with the giant imperial cruiser going by for what seemed like minutes, was amazing. And that first laser battle!  Add to this a very charismatic Harrison Ford, sexy yet fiesty Carrie Fisher, fine support from Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2....and the voice of James Earl Jones as Darth Vader, the unforgettable Sir Alec Guiness....I could go on and on. If only they would've left out the Cantina scene with the stupid hokey quasi-disco music.

The beginning like you said, was great. What made the imperial cruiser so impressive was that the ship it was chasing seemed huge itself. As the first ship went by you were amazed, as the second went by you were awestruck.

Lucas copied the medal ceremony (along with many other plot elements and camera techniques) from "The Hidden Fortress".

The first one is the best.  The next two are progressively worse.  The latest two are such obvious product placement vehicles for the kiddie market that I stayed far away from them.

Star Wars is like the greatest movie EVER
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
