Need advice on new SUV
« on: May 12, 2003, 11:51:36 AM »
In my shopping around for a new SUV for my family, I stumbled accross this dainty little number.  Do you guys think it is practical enough for a miserly father with a family of 4?

"The Grand Dominator"  gotta love that name :D

it looks like a clean MadMax ride, do you get a price for  a "ringing theme song" when riding it?

I had a Chevy Tahoe Limited edition...leased her for $430 a month. Nice, sporty, BIG, safe, got about 15 miles a gallon...hwy.

If you want to keep your family safe, go big, because if your sporting a mini and a guy in an Excursion broadsides you...well...

If you're in a mini and an SUV manages to catch you... you deserve what you get.

Oh... and I'm trying to figure out what is a good car/truck to be in when another car/truck broadsides you.   Hmmmmmm.  Nothing comes to mind except Brinks.

I would tend to believe you've got a better chance in another Excursion than you would in a corvette. Obviously, something with plenty of safety features, side impact bags, maybe crunch zones and a steel reinforced frame.

I just have to believe you've got a better chance to survive an impact if the force of it is spread out and absorbed by a larger vehicle.

I cannot buy into the "safe" agrument.  Ever try an emergency lane change in one of those monsters?

Give me something that can move out of the way or avoid the wreck and I call that safe.

My Tahoe was very sporty, but I think they mena "Sport" more like in Outdoorsman type sports.

But that truck was great. It had a very low center of gravity, so it handled like a dream. I had to make a few emergency maneuvers in it, and never once even cam close to a rollover.

The truck even had ground effects, and sport lamps. It was not even 4 Wheel drive.

*shrugs*

It worked for me, and I would have kept it if I could have afforded it. But for $299 a month lease, I got a new Monte Carlo SS when the Tahoe lease came up.
