Guess the real beer!
« on: May 19, 2003, 05:08:00 PM »
As promised in some post made last week, as soon as I got a bottle of real Newcastle, I'd take a picture of it next to some nut brown ale that I brewed on my own (and bottled in a Newcastle bottle) so that you can see how close I got the coloring on it.  :)  BTW, if you've never had a Newcastle, those are clear bottles, so the brown color is the beer itself.  If I showed you the tops, however, the caps would give it away instantly.  ;)

Now, as for taste, I'll let you know this coming weekend when mine is ready for consumption (needs a couple of weeks in the bottle before carbonation develops!)  One is the actual "The One and Only" and the other is mine.  :)  Those who home brew (or know something of it) should be able to pick them apart instantly, the rest of you will have to think about it.  :p

If he filtered it first you would not be able to spot it so easily. A cold press filter does wonders to home brew.

ya, but filtering it takes the magic out of the aging process.  ;)  (the real reason is I don't have a filter!)

In fact, if I had filtered, I don't think you would have been able to tell from just looking at them.

Especially because the label on the real Newkie is in a lot worse shape than on the Niftycastle.

Be sure to say a prayer for your beer nifty

Our beer,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk,
I will be drunk,
At home as I am in the pub.
Forgive us this day our daily spillages
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not into the practice of poncey wine tasting,
And deliver us from alco-pops,
For mine is the bitter,
The ale and the lager,
Forever and ever;
BARMEN
"Willy's gone and made another,
Something like it's elder brother-
Wing tips rounded, spinner's bigger.
Unbraced tailplane ends it's figure.
One-O-nine F is it's name-
F is for futile, not for fame."

That's cuz it was transported from the fridge at the store to my house in heavy humidity!  The poor thing was sweating like a fat 2-bit potato in church!  ;)

CavPuke, thanks.  :)  Newcastle is a fine beer, and I'm very happy that Northern Brewer has a Nut Brown Ale kit.  ;)

thrila, I will tell the bottles the prayer.  They will rejoice in the words, and shall grow strong in flavor, and in potency.  :)

Label gave it away for me too.  The sediment was something I didn't notice.

And, I've never loved funked more than I do right now.

Now the real question here is....

When are you gonna send me some dammit?

I'll trade you a 6-pack of homemade Munich Helles.
