a more realistic bailout...

how about instead of typing enter three times the player has to type in a sequence of keys that is generated randomly before every flight? that would take a bit of time and concentration, and, with your aircraft plummeting to the ground, would be slightly more challenging.

If you can't put it down Ud, ride it down..

Or another option is to have the lady douse you with AV-Gas and fire you up.

Those three keystrokes would be a challenge, between trying to keep your moniter from melting and keeping the den from becoming an inferno..

Not to mention that "happy" dance one does when they burst into flames..

Then comes the SCHREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!! as the flames eat into your flesh...

Next thing you know your on the local network news from a helicopter shot as a flamer running down a residential street..

Need I continue ??

Jeez..

would be cool if we had to open the cockpit, and not be allowed to bail out if the plane is over (insert safe bailoutspeed here) or pulling more than 1.5g's.

And make bailouts in friendly territory not cost perks, but rather give a bigger bonus for landing the plane.

here here OIO, the bail outs in friendly territory should not cost you all of your perk points at all. but rather just a small percentage of them, like lets say you have a 262 and you have like 4 or 5 kills with it. then lets say you have lost your number 2 engine along with its corresponding control surfaces. lets say you hold the bird together long enough to get out of hostile territory and then have to bail. you should get the points that can be credited to 2 or 3 kills. or if you manage to land the bird, you should get the credit for all of your kills plus 1. also lets say you have that same 262 and you get hit with a CTD, you should back up to half of your points back. well thats just my two cents.

How do you bail out and why would one bother?

....hmmmm......

Go ahead and change it any way you like. Make it so that you have to type in the first chapter of War and Peace verbatim. Fine by me. In fact, it'd be exactly the same to me.  :D
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Do what IL2 does, make it so that it takes something like 5 seconds to bail out.  IL2 FB shows the cockpit being opened, a pause, then the guy clambers out and makes his jump.

Something I miss from Warbirds is how the plane stayed in existance until it hit the ground.  The plane shouldn't just explode and disappear when you bail.

Bailing out should not be something to be learned new every time you sortie.  Want to make it more complex?  Fine, if it cuts down on the number of 10 year olds that can handle the game then thats a step in the right direction.

Also, visually, the current AH bailout is just plain cheap.  Make the visual like IL2, at least.

Even in WBs from 5 years ago the bailout looked tons better than what AH is today.

While Im at it:  Engine damage in WBs from from 5 years ago was alot more immersive, with sputtering and gradual engine performance degradation.

Why mention WBs?  Because HT did WBs and I would have thought that AH would have at least paralelled WBs in both the above examples.  By now.

Seeing the pilot-less plane plummet to the ground, is awesome.

I agree....
The plane one bails out from shouldnt just disappear. In fact i think it shouldnot even change any icon colour as it did in Warbirds. Let those enemies chase down a downed plane.....:)

I do believe that the bailout in AH sucks bigtime. I think the least they could do is include a random 5-10 sec delay and a cockpit sliding open sound followed by wind getting louder.......and there should be random cockpit jams.......lol.........that would be fun.

my idea was to try to replicate the feeling of performing a somewhat complex sequence under pressure, much like an actual bailout is. I do agree a delay and some animation is needed.
However, I consider showing the destroyed plane crashing to the ground consumes bandwidth and is not necessary.

Having color graphics consumes bandwidth and 'is not necessary' either, but it sure makes the game more fun and immersive.

color graphics don't consume bandwidth during gameplay in AH.  Every color you see in the game is tied to the terrain you're on.  The skin of the plane is in no way transmitted from the game server to the client (unless you count the one time you download the new terrain.)

However, if someone bails, and the plane stays in the game world until it crashes, then you've got one player sending out twice the bandwidth that he was before he bailed.  The game has to track and send info on both the chute and the empty plane.

Anyways, leave bailing out easy.  Chute shooting is fun!  :)

Well if you're flying in an event like CAP, a bail rather than a death means you get to keep your streak going and any earned medals aren't reduced by 1 level cos you're dead.

DO NOT MAKE IT HARDER TO BAIL OUT!!

Cripes, already not nearly enough people are hitting the silk for my liking lately.
