Whine of the Week....by Rude
« on: October 11, 2001, 12:14:00 PM »
Each week, I will post what I feel is the most pathetic, self-centered, ignorant and childish whine.

The lucky winner of this distinction will recieve the recognition due them and without apology or sympathy on my part.

Here we go...this weeks winning Whine of the Week goes to LePaul for the following:

The ack seems to be incredibly accurate again, and I know my hrricaine got popped while evading through the hills. I suspect it was THRU the hill but since I didnt see the shot coming, I can only suspect. But from other attacks I've made on the cities, using our oragami IL-2, the ack is once again juiced. I can't put my finger on what's wrong, is it too large a caliber, or just too accurate...but the 1 ping deaths are vastly more persitent than ever.

Add to this the ground vehicles are screwed up, the M8 bounces everywhere and if a GV comes near a tree or touches the city, you die. So, the fun with GVs has pretty much ceased for me.

Plus these fluff'n trees. Getting a loaded bomber out of any of these bases is amazingly risky. I wouldn't mind the trees if they 1) Looked real, not like cartoonish 2-d paper cut outs (ala 'southpark' animation) or 2) if they were spaced apart. I mean, check your local airport, if there are trees in the flight path, down they go. I'm told the tree issue is going to be resolved but they still look awful. The Mindaiano terrain is gorgeous, to ruin it with these ugly trees is a real disservice. I'm no Picaso but can't we find something better than oragami~looking things?

Oh and the Pork Points.

Buffs bomb hangars, fields and such and get 1 perk point or so. Some fella in a fighter flies out and about, hammers a train (that doesnt shoot back) and gets gazillions of perks. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

And one further, I don't understand why all of these bugs slipped through. With all of us drooling for 1.08, I'm sure HTC had all kinds of beta testers to draw on. I'm just in awe (head banging on desk) with some of these bugs. No one noticed trees at the end of every runway? No one drove the M8 around and noticed it bounced all over the place? Maybe I'm being fussy since I work for a software firm and know what we go through to develop our product. I'm not going to be rude and suggest how HTC should develop their software, but from a customer stand point, my satisfaction has been effected. While I love the game overall, I really think a lot of these bugs could have been prevented. Maybe I'm overstepping my bounds, but I feel better having aired that.

Hopefully Patch 2 resolves a lot of the issues in this thread.

How is that considered a Whine? err Everything that guy said is simply the truth.

 Rude if you think that is a whine, I guess HTC is/has Fixed Items that did not need fixing.

Who said it anyway? They made vailid points (except the origami tree part) thats render/efficency for FPS tradeoff.

Actually, I don't think Rude is distinguishing between the issue at heart of a "whine" as much as he is in the form of the "whine."  The whole last paragraph of the post in question is unnecessary in relation to bringing the issues to light.

Well, Rude, I compliment you on stirring the pot and bringing up...well, nothing!

I mentioned, very matter-of-factly, that there were some real issues with 1.08.  You're only diehard supporter is Skurj...and that speaks volumes   :D

I stand by my comments, if you feel its a whine, then too bad.  Ask hard questions, insist on good answers.

Say what you mean, mean what you say.

LePaul you could have just said...

Ack seems to be too effective with 1 ping hits, and appears to be firing through solid objects.

(the vehicle one is spot on, but you could have done without the "are screwed up" comment)

Trees seem to be too close to the runway for lifting off in a heavy bomber.  There's just not enough room to clear them.  The trees themselves don't look all that great.  Perhaps better modelling of them could be looked into.

Trains and convoys are giving out too many perk points for the ease of their destruction.

And you could have left it at that.  You're correct in saying you pointed out real issues with the new release.  I don't think anyone is arguing that.  However, pointing out issues/bugs is one thing, adding inflammatory remarks along with the issues, then questioning the testing practices of the company (while implying you and your company do it better) is another.  Your "extra" comments were unnecessary in detailing the issues, IMO, and is why some feel it was a whine.

It's no different than the posts of "The George FM needs to be looked at as it seems underweight and retaining E too well" vs. "That fediddlein' UFO niki needs to be fixed and anyone that flies it is a dweeby cheater!"

Actually its very good that Lepaul doesnt hide behind political correctness of fearing that he may Offend someone. Especially in such a dumb topic as a GAME DEBATE.

Why beat around the bush?.. why be fake and say things like oh, I feel that something is wrong, perhaps it should be looked into, something just doesnt seem right. "that sheep may have a chance of rendering my panzer useless"

If he feels like saying.. This is Jacked up, its freaking screwy and retarted, theres no way in #^## a sheep will... yada yada" (<--example)

hes only expressing a more TRUTHFULL proclomation of what HE Feels.

If it offends people with statments like these, wow, grow up.

Thanks, Highflyer.

What amuses me is that since I said those things, its been pig pile the accuser.  Let's tear apart the person making the accusations rather than look at what I've said and pointed out.

I just find it humorous so many wanna "cc" whatever HiTech says, as if shoving their chest in the air to show they support him, etc etc.  I enjoy a good debate and discussion.  No one's really wanted that.  I point out some issues and its "How dare I complain" kinda baloney.

Look, kids, if I hated the game, I wouldn't be paying for my subscription, or for another player's.

I just hate seeing a great program like Aces fall on its face with bugs/issues that strike me, as a player, as relatively easy to notice, locate and shouldn't be there.  You fault me for pointing that out.  That's fine.  I respectfully disagree.
