I was watching some real films of bombs and rockets etc hitting buildings etc and i noticed the main thing that makes them so fascinating is the sheer destructive power. This is something players crave when they drop bombs in games and often explosive affects are mentioned when games get their reveiws.
(yeah I know, doesnt say a lot for the human race does it?

)
Well anyway I noticed in many of the more impressive films like the recent ones in iraq and older WW2 films there were secondary explosions and lots of debris.
I realise there is unfortunately a limit to the amount of objects you guys want to add to the game engine and i got the idea that due to the extra information that is sent you have avoided adding too much, for instance if a pilot bails and the game engine then has to track both a pilot and a crashing aircraft, it would mean twice the information.
Maybe this is why at present we dont have much debris thrown up when we bomb? well i thought of a way around it. Basically have the debris, flames and secondary explosions all stored on the players computer.When a building is destroyed it plays a sort of pre-recorded explosion which doesnt need to be sent to all computers. The debris would be the same for everyone because all that happens is their computer shows the same animation.
would this work? seems to me the only info that would need to be sent is the 'hanger destroyed' instruction, the players computer then plays a great animation of that hanger or factory really blowing! it means no more info need be sent than now.
have i got it all wrong?

hehe
Anyhow i guess im basically asking for a nicer/bigger/more impressive explosion when bombs land and please some secondary explosions to add to the look if you hit your target.
eye candy? sure .. but i think secondary explosions has rarely been used in games.Im trying to think of a game now and i cant think of a single one.Could be another selling point for AH if it looks particularly good.
thanks

btw If this isnt possible could you guys explain why it isnt viable?
