To the confused about the WWIIOL free trial thingy.

Hmmmm .. ok ... let's see ....

I've got the boxed game that claims to be WWIIonline (Blitzkrieg or whatever). So let's say I try the free trial and take a couple of days of the free trial to download the bazillion bytes needed to upgrade the version I have (which ... quite frankly, ain't too bueno) ... and get my stick setup right ... etc. After five more days (only a few hours of which'll probably be used to check out the game at most) am I gonna hafta buy the game again? I mean hell, I bought it once figuring wth. Didn't like what it was, didn't feel like downloading via dialup for two days to upgrade it to see if that made it better. I dunno if this amazing limited offer is drawing alot of potential customers but it doesn't excite me all that much right now. Maybe when my ship comes in and I have too much time on my hands.

But thanks for askin'.

You would think that after two years of being active, they'd have fixed it by now.  Shows what kind of priorities the dev team has in regards to certain elements of their game.  I wonder how much more time it will take the Rats to catch up to AH's flight model once AH2 comes out later this year, that is if the Rats can catch up.

im not going to even reply to batz over there because he obviously doesnt have a clue wtf he's talknig about considering the outright lies he's spewing.

arlo, youre still not getting it,you dont buy any box to play the free trial, you simply sign up with a valid email address, you dont even need a credit card.

again, the 7 day trial is 100% free,no purchasing of anything of any kind.

also you dont need a couple of days to download anything.

you download the complete file off the website, that file comes already updated, tho i think actually it may not have 1.86,so you will have to download a i believe 3 or 4 mb patch, but it does that for you when you login.

ack ack the problem is they have to give equal dev time to infantry, tanks, and air, thats three seperate games they gotta work on basically.

then there's the on going development of the map,non stop graphics updates being worked on,new vehicles, bug fixes, tweaks, various LARGE features that they are working on.

they have alot to do all at the same time, and they already work long hours, its just not humanly possible to go any faster atm.

but the flight model and all aircraft i believe are being worked on atm.

and no they'll never catch up to aces high's flight model mmost likely because im assuming its always being worked on?,even if not it'll take them awhile.

thats beauase as i said, they cant concentrate only on the air portion, not even mostly, the game is not a flight sim.
infantry, tanks, and air, have to get equal development time, along with all the major system changes always being worked on.

thats why if you are into flight sims, and the war aspect is not your game then aces high is the game for you.

personally tho i suck at dog fighting,im a ground pounder, tho i can bomb pretty well,so aces high altho good wouldnt be worth a monthly sub just for me to get shot down dozens of times a day by you folks :D

tho i still havent been able to try the demo i downloaded thanks to my Golly-geen video card fan and crappy case.

Nice subject bu way off topic ... please go eat worm now.

Actually I've played WW2OL and from having to pay for the box, and then basically paying to patch it up to playing standard (120+MB from memory)...it was a fairly ordinary game.

I did like the tanks, but then spending 10 mins looking for a fight got really old, really fast....although when there was action (usually in defence, against an organised attack - read: in the right place at the right time..and not often) it was fairly interesting.

But would I go back....ahhhh Hell no, I'll stick to DOD for the first person shooting, and AH (not that I get to play hardly ever anyhow) for the rest...

AFAIK, AH and Shattered Galaxy are the only two MMOs that give you a free trial without having to purchase the software.

Everquest, AO1/2, Planetside and WWIIOL all follow the "pay for the software, and get a month free" business model.

Calling 19.99 free is gay. 19.99 gives you one month for 19.99, not free......how stupid .

Why call it free? Are you sure it doesnt offer a month trial for fee?

LOL

You're probably right. (Although I think you misunderstood that I've already bought the boxed game. I'm not inclined to buy it twice.) :D Thanks again.

I'm curious as to how many people actually got to sign up for the free trial? There was something porked about the Gigix account page. Wouldn't accept the info I provided. Clicking on the help link produced nothing. Sent an e-mail to Gigix about the problem, but the contact link they provided was bad, mail returned undeliverable. Said screw it and gave up.

Funny, seems it was just like dealing with CRS.

Same here.  Even though DoD isn't quite the same as WW2OL, the infantry fighting is way more intense.  Tonight I was involved in a hour long battle just for this little farm house on the Kalt map, man was the house-to-house fighting brutal during that battle.

What's funny (and the joke is on me) is that I had pre-ordered WW2OL and now the box has turned into a $40 dollar book end.  At least now that I cancelled my WW2OL subscription last fall, I have more money to lavish on all the pretty ewes.

so long as they have a fat drunken aussie liar on the development team then the game will be worthless.   Any team with him in an active role is a team of liars and blowhards.   That is the kind of problem that  just about killed WB... probly kill WWIIOL.

get some honesty in the team and things will turn around... don't tell me..."oh, we used to be lieing sacks of **** but we don't do that anymmore."  No?  what exactly has changed?
