I have a 91 accord with a 5 speed and it seems to have a mechanical limiter that won't allow me to shift from say 5th to say 2nd at highway speed unless I REALLY force the stick.

at say 120 KPH (bout 75 MPH) if put the clutch to the floor I can't put into a lower gear( even without releasing the clutch) than 3rd and that's pushing it.

that guy was a real moron. I can't stand people that just slam the shifter around, does he think it makes him more of a racer?

Theres nothing wrong with hitting the Limitter all the time. Thats why its there. A manufactured design safety..Except for the moron in the RSX!!!

Some of our cars are ment to be driven at higher RPM's Honda S2000, Civic Si's, Toyota Celica (01-03), MR2 Spyder, Mazda Miata, Protege5 just to name a few...

This is where the Variable Valve Timing come to work at the higher power band where these motors shine with their power. You have to run depending on the car 6500-9000 RPM to get the most of these smaller engines.  Which their designed to run at these high RPM's.  Unless you have the 'miss-shift' which the fuel cut off/rev limiter should kick in.

My favorite part is the picture where he's got it the engine out and you can see the top of someone's head. Well, in the background you can see who looks to be his wife or girlfiend, maybe. The look on her face seems to be saying..."What a dumb Sh*t. He just haaad to put all our extra money in his little toy, and now lookatit!".

This is the result of piss poor driving and shifting habits combined with bad driving.

I read the entire story on the borads where this guy posted. Apparently, he was trying to prove to his buddy how quick his BRAND NEW Acura RSX was. He was redlining every gear, shifting only when the RPMs were over 7,500. When he tried to slow down, the driver pulled too far to the left on the shift knob and dropped it into 2nd. Since he didn't try to left up the clutch, but rather let it pop on its own, he blew his pistons right out the bottom of the block.

A really funny story. If I can find the link, I'll put it up...

Never take ure engine to the limiter just before is enough, plus a limiter wouldnt help u if u miss a gear as the guy wanted to find out:)

He was snaping the clutch up as well ( as u can hear when he changes to 2nd) if he was driving properly he could have saved the engine by just dipping the clutch again, .

Is the max torq at the limiter on those little bullets?

Talking about limiters, in my dad was fairly drunk getting out of a bar in his early years.

He went in his 911 and couldn't understand why everytime he was reaching 90 KPH his engine would shut down ... After a bunch of restarts, he finally realized that he never left the parking lot and he was just reving the engine thinking the RPM guage was the KPH.

Better this way, it's a funny story to tell rather than "my dad died DUI".

limiters are electronic nowadays, soon as u hit the limit ure throttle is closed, saves u from inserting ure valves into pistons :)

Honda has a problem with that sort of thing. If you blow a belt of rod the the pistons crush your valves almost everytime.
