Can somebody paint a picture...
« on: June 04, 2003, 09:36:14 AM »
What are all the components related to spped and frame rate as far as hardware goes.

ie.   RAM  Vid card CPU speed and frontside bus.

I have a p4 1.7 ghz
              gf 4 ti4200
              768 SDRAM  (PC133)
I haev found out that my system is limited by my ram.  What else is there in the pipeline that can cause bottle necks  Front side bus?  Hard drive speed?

I think you have a pretty balanced system. Ok, DDR Ram is flavour of the month, but you would probably notice very little difference having it. A good balanced system  is worth a lot. If your Ram had been only PC100 it may have been a bottleneck.

thnx FOGOLD,  My problem isnt with AH, its with games such as CFS3 and IL2, Frame rate makes these games unplayable most of the time and i am unable to enable all of the graphical features.
I am due for a new puter and dont want to make the mistake at looking at just cpu speed and graphic card.

I disagree, you'll probably see a huge difference between SDRAM and DDR ram because of the  memory bandwith.

HDD speed is and always be a bottleneck, if you just game on this machine then do a stripe set raid config.

I would really like to know what is involved with installing a motherboard as far as compatability is concerned,  I beleive I can do the hardware work, but I am afraid, someting will be imcompatable with something else, also how do I keep my software on my puter if I upgrade to anew MOBO.

I'd need a new motherboard to get DDR :(

And a new vid card aswell, my GF4 MX for some reason only gives a small performance boost over my 2/3 PCI voodoo4 I had in before :(

Just thought of something, did you use the frame rate slider in CFS3?
