You do realize that the 530 series is 1 second slower than the 330 I'm sure. Not too many 5 series at the track, a sprinkling of 540i's but 3 series and M's usually at the track. (540i is a V8 with identical 0-60 time and the 330 will lose the 540i on the first curve)

5 series: Family car
3 series: sports car that can carry the family

If Rip was a real man he'd get an M3 with SMG.

GScholz, mine is a manual 5 spd. I doubt those Pontiacs are too bad in corners though. They seem to come with very agressive tires and run pretty low.

BTW I got some more rice, an exhaust kit from Prodrive (who build and campaign the WRC Impreza). The stock exhaust is just too quiet, very wimpy. I doubt I have increased power much, but there is definitely a little less turbo lag.

Admittedly, Im not too familiar with Subaru tuning - what does the "Vishnu" kit consist of?

I always thought you could swap ECUs ("chip" the car) for a substational gain, or swap blowers for a larger gain pretty easily. I dunno if there is much to be had with a downpipe or exhaust on the WRX. I do know that exhaust for the 951 would have been a complete waste of time: 3-4 HP for a $1700 cat back setup.

Factory FI is a wonderful thing for tuners. More boost... bigger injectors... even more boost... bigger injectors... old turbo isnt big enough... bigger blower... more boost... bigger injectors...

Hehe, it never ends.

Keep on modding that thing... in 6 months, 300HP just wont "do it for you" anymore.

Keep on modding that thing... in 6 months, 300HP just wont "do it for you" anymore.

I'm not going to mess with the motor until the warranty is finished. Actually I'm not going to mess with anything until I get some debts paid off.

But in fantasy land where I have some money to spend, and assuming I still have no life and want to spend all my money on toys, I'm going to do the Stage Zero or Sub Zero because of Kalifornia's draconian emissions requirements. Here's the info:

Power gains are mostly from remapping the ECU to run more boost at the expense of emissions and fuel mileage and detonation margin.

Of course before I do something silly like that I would install a Stoptech brake kit. I can already get the stock brakes to fade a little on some of the downhill twisties around here. With ~50 more hp I would definitely need bigger brakes.

Funked, M3 with SMG was planned for 2005 (if gainfully employed) however the wifes wheels are getting 80,000 miles on them, shes next for a new car. She's leaning towards a 5 series (finger>>Creamo

) but I've got a year and a half to convince her we need at least a 540i if (gasp) not, an M5(used)

M3 + SMG is the one BMW I could actually get excited about. I considered getting an MR Spyder because of it is available with that type of transmission, but when I sat in that car my knees were wedged into the steering wheel.
