What in hell happened?
« on: June 20, 2000, 09:34:00 PM »
Frame rates went to hell.

RW is porked.. crashes me to desktop. (Mk1.a)

Rolled my pony inverted at 350mph; and pulled.. it STALLED. What they do to flight model?

Guns seem feeble as hell.. they turned the .50's down AGAIN?

Prop drag seems nice.. but gee; they made the accel WORSE?

Smooth wheels up ditch at 105mph.. died. Thats not 'high speed'.. issit?

Are the servers unable to handle the DL's and 100 players?? It's lag/warp city in there...

Dammo.. too many things... waaaay to many things moved in my cage at one time. I wanna jump up and down and say "Yeah; new version!".. instead it's "aww; crap.. dumped again"

*sigh*

Hang (dissapointed)

I've gotten dumped at least 15 times tonight.

"SIGH"

I had 18 CTD's too, really annoying. I mean my comp NEVER acted up untill 1.03.

Its always the same. OOO. ahh. Then the screeming starts.

Personelly, I trade all the eyecandy for the stability of the beta arena in a hartbeat.

Yeah, eye candy is almost never worth the price.  Try flying low over a smoking field, your fps goes down to roman numerals.

Yours does. Mine doesn't.

I have enjoyed this version very much so far. Yes, there was lag, but that is most likely due to the d/l. No biggie. Just flew expecting to dump and that it would be hard to guess where people were. Granted, I wouldn't want this to be normal, but I can take tonight for what it was.

Hangtime, I doubt the .50's were changed, rather the load is high at the moment and you are losing packets. But, you know this already.

Black smoke is too intense!!  I flew through it and FR went down to 5 or 6, WOW!!  When I came out to clear sky it jumped back up to normal 50+, do a look back at the smoke and back to the basement FR wise.  It's nice to have the smoke    Needs a small breeze to move it over the area though.  He heee, AlGore know you polutin the area, he'll come for ya <"Janet we have a new big bzzness for ya to target. Forget BIG tobacco, get HTC!!">.

BTW, who has the scrap metal consession in the MA?  Whoever it is is gettin rich!!!  They prolly using overmodelled 18 wheelers to haul it away!!!

Hangtime, ya gotta get the .54 RW before it will work.

I have the most recent version or RW.. not the beta. It's version mk.1a; It's working.. but still bounces me to desktop. 5 times I discoed when keying the mike.

The Number keypad no longer types numbers in the text buffer... now I gotta retype anything that has a number in it; ie re-learn how to type. Marvelous. If you get no "hi 109' warnings from me you'll know why.

The flight model has me wondering.. that split 's' stall at 350 had me cursing for 20 minutes. Do I need to re-learn how to fly? Why is the accel worse? Odd byproduct of prop drag?

Was sitting down a goon at 85 IAS; wheels DOWN off the runway... and died. Methinks the ditch models a bit harsh. Pony died in a clean ditch at 110 wheels down (or up)... if I ran my car off the road at 85 or 110 I'd for sure live if I kept it upright... and with my seatbelt/shoulder harness on, prolly still walk away if I rolled it. Jeep does a better job of protecting the driver I guess...

All the eye candy is very nice... but understand that I just spent 400 bucks in the last coupla months gettin the machine upgraded to produce decent frame rates. Now it's WORSE than before I upgraded. THAT pisses me off. A Celeron 466 w/32meg RAM 770 vid card and 128 meg of ram should not be incompetent running this sim. Frame rates less than 10 in a furball near smoke or clouds ain't right... or flyable.

U expect me to be 'happy' with these changes?

I'd suggest that HTC give us updates more often, with fewer changes per update; rather than changing so drasticly so many things at once.

Damn... whatta lousy day.

Mk1a is not the latest RW. They have a newer version that just came out.

FM:  I don't know if there has been a change, the P-51 felt a bit mushy to me, but I've been flying the 190 for the last week or so, so maybe I just need to get used to it again.  Also, in the P-51 I got into my first unrecoverable flat spin today.  I don't know if there has been a FM change, but if there was I like it.

Ditching:  I just performed a very ugly ditch in a 109G-10 (planes don't glide as easy as before) off field, gear down, and I survived no problem.

Kieren:  What kind of super computer u runnin on?

IMHO the new a/c and features will be well worth it after the bugs get chased out. I had CTDs but I also had a blast tonite!

Can't say I share your sentiment Hangtime.  I wasn't on earlier... but flew for a bit later without problems.  The F4u-1D seemed to behave as usual and the .50's were accurate enough and lethal enough to de-wing a p-38 almost instantly.  The prop drag will take some getting used to though.

Some times the "dumming" down of weaps can be attributed to lag.  Judging by the ammount of people simultaneously downloading an 8 meg file.. I'd say the lag was to be expected.

AH writeup specifically refers to v. 0.54, that's beta mk. 1c

Hang, my system is ALMOST identical to yours.  Absolutely no drop in fps here.

My system: 466 Celeron, 96 Mb ram, V 770 Ultra 32 meg card.

(Make sure you are running Diamond 4.01 or 4.02 drivers.)  Those Det 5.22's are no good IMO for DX games.  Why don't you try a reinstall of the Diamond drivers and see if that doesn't fix it.   )

I'll agree with you that the p51 sure is tough to control now though.

Each new version since day one has gone through a few days of furious bug fixin' and patchin'. There's far too much to like in this realease to fret over the things that will be cleaned up very soon. It just seems a little premature to get worked up about this.

FPS went to hell on my machine too, Clouds are ok im still getting 33-45 FPS but I went to field A7 and there were 2 big clouds of black smoke, I just looked at them and FPS went down to 6-8, I flew through them and It went down to 4  .

My computer Celron 366 @ 456
V3 3000
128 meg SDRAM
Latest V3 Drivers.

This computer has ran AH since the beta and I have allways been in 1024x768 with great FPS, I tried the new 1.03 in 640x480 and it was just as bad as 1024x768.

The black smoke around bases once something has been blown up is way over done, it looks like the bases have sprouted little volcanos
I hope they give the players away to toggle this off & on.

Other than that its a great update, pity I cant/wont play it with the current FPS.
