What planes to model....
« on: August 29, 1999, 03:16:00 AM »
Ahh lets beat this thread to death (it still has a pulse)

Puuuuuleease concentrate on one theatre and one threatre only.  Model as many planes and varients of such in as much detail as possible.  THEN, and only THEN move onto another theatre.

Nip the silly WB SL aircraft substituition right in the butt early.

FW's fightin zekes, spits fighting mustangs, p40's fighting f4f's........... blah I think you have done that already.

Let's try Afrika and med front

Axis:

LW - Bf 109E-7
LW - Bf 109F-4/Trop (Uh, forgot this initially   )
LW - Bf 109G-2
LW - Bf 110E-4
LW - Ju 52m3
LW - Ju 87D
LW - Ju 88
LW - Fw 190A-4 (very late in conflict)

Someone more familiar with Italian AF (Reggia Aeronautica?) can submit essential Italian planes.

Allied

RAF - Hurricane I
RAF - Hurricane IIC
RAF - Hurricane IID
RAF - Tomahawk (P-40)
RAF - Kittyhawk (P-40)
RAF - Spitfire Mk.Vc
RAF - Spitfire Mk.IXc (very late in conflict)
RAF - Blenheim
RAF - Boston
USAAF - P-38E Lightning
USAAF - B-24 Liberator

With these planes it should be fairly easy to recreate almost any conflict that was fought in Afrika.

Many planes could be used in different theaters also.

Naw.

the luftwafles practicly own that other sim with all thier whines and rants.  how about we go PAC only.  Then we could have all the IJA/IJN planes, P40's, P39's, F4F, Brewsters, TBD, TBF, SBD, S2BC, F6F-3, F6F-5, F6F-5N, P51, P47, P38, B24, B25, B17, B26.... Spit Vb, Hurrican and on and on.

(yes i remember the USA stuff better but I know the IJA/IJN list would be as long or longer)

we don't need no stinking luftwafles.

Pac only? Yawn!

1. No large and famous cities to bomb (London, Berlin, Moscow, Paris)

2. Less ground activity, no large industrial facilities (Ruhr valley).

3. Less nations in the conflict, basically just U.S. and Japan. In the ETO on the other hand you have Brits, LW, French, Italians, U.S., Russians, etc.

4. HTC already stated that there wouldn t be CVs in the first release. Can you imagine a PAC scenario without CVs? That would be an even bigger YAWN!

Russian Front - groups of disorganised planes flying low level ground attack - sounds like online flight sims to me

"We", gatt?  Speak for yourself please.  North Africa would be nice, but I do enjoy my Big Blue Iron.

Why not just go from theatre to theatre like deft said?  Get all those airplanes, get everyone happy or as close to as possible.

Maybe because the ETO theatre utilized at least 100 different types of planes in itself? If you put off the PTO theater for the ETO theater, the ETO guys will never let go of the notion that the ETO "isn't complete yet" - not for years. It's a bunk notion to begin with and I doubt seriously that HiTech and the gang are so lopsided in their viewpoint. PTO is where the war was won - I doubt anyone feels it should be neglected in the self proclaimed 'sim-to-end-all-sims'.

Bring on the PTO

Hmm..I just remembered the first AH screenshots and guess what? There's a 109 G-10 in one of them. Now is that a clue to what theatre of operations the planes in the first AH release will be from?

On second thought my guess is that HTC won't stick to one theatre. If they did they'd make a large group of potential players unhappy - one way or the other.

Just out of curiosity: How was it done in "that other sim"? Did the first release include planes from ETO AND PTO?

Brick,

sorry, I'd rather have said: "not only PTO and ETO ... ".
Anyway, the three theaters of ops I mentioned are very interesting and neglected in recent sims.

P.S.: you look very susceptible ... cool down
