Shane is an excellent pilot. When my squad the Widow Makers change to the Rooks for a tour, I found myself bumping into Shane quite often, and being a victim of his skill many times. Time to give credit where credit is due.... One time (no, not at band camp) Shane was hovering near one of my bases and we ended up going one on one many times. Can't say as I won even one fight that time. On ch1 I asked if Shane would do that merge move he does with no guns so I could film it. He agreed and I boomed 'em while filming. Then I asked if we could do it again at a slower rate of speed (hoping I could see the move better in slow motion) and again he obliged. After getting my film, he and I did some more one on one fights and he popped me 2 out of 3 (the one time he died was being because of some b.s. excuse of course and not at all that I might be figuring out his fighting style) and I thanked him for his help and logged to watch the film. I did a bunch of hand waggling, eventually using empty cig. boxes for airplanes and figured out what he was doing. Logged back on and went Shane hunting.
For the time he took to let me film, and the 1 vs. 1's, I give Shane a hearty SALUTE with much respect.
Now...
this is why he's on my dweeb list.
Shane is actually an easy kill. Just grab alt around whatever furball he is in, let him burn his E killing 3-4 of your fellow countrymen, boom in and light him up. He loves to dive in and mix it up and usually ends up low, slow and on the deck. Granted, Shane is quite exceptional low, slow and on the deck, but as long as you stay fast, and know how to avoid his merges, he's a target / prey like anyone else. Whenever I would hear Shane is at such and such base on in-country channel, I would up a nearby base and hunt. If your any good at snap shots / deflection shots you should be able to cherry pick 'em fairly easy as he furballs. I've gotten him several times that way (many, many assists also) and as soon as he goes boom, I like to pay attention to ch.1 for his whine. It's never "nice shot" or "way to go, you got me" it's always some b.s. whine about why his belly button is an outie and THAT is why he died, or some other lame arse pile of drivel. I get quite sick of hearing him whine because let's be honest here, the whole reason he died is because he blew any alt/e advantage and got caught furballing on the deck like a dweeb. (which has it's moments and is quite fun sometimes btw....) He basically does near suicide runs, and when he dies, calls YOU the dweeb because you killed 'em. I find it sad to berate someone on ch.1 because you were the one flying like an newbie and died.
Part of the MA is the multi layered fight you come across with nme peeps at 2k, 12k, and 20k and that's where SA comes in. Part of the fun of fighting in the MA is knowing when to leave the fight or your in a hopeless situation and it's only a matter of time until your dead. A pilot of Shanes caliber knows all this of course, and he chooses to fly the way he does, so he shouldn't get pissy when he get's killed doing it.
THAT's what ticks me off. He's basically killin' himself, and blaming you for doing it. That's the dweeb part that I see. Don't blame somebody else because you put yourself in a bad situation.
When my squad moved back to Knights, I knew I would miss my Shane hunting parties (and shooting down members of the Damned of course) but then again, getting to shoot at the JB's again made up for it. The JB's sure do make perty boom's when I kill 'em (heh)
oops..forgot my sig.
