Catch-22 murders the funny moments compared to how they are written in the book. It should never have been even attempted with that cast; in particular, Yossarian is played by a 35+ y/old when in the book he's in his early twenties. It was completely unconvincing - as WW2 aviation buffs, you'll know that officers of Yossarian's rank were typically 20 years old.
But I'm biased because I think Catch-22 is one of the best books ever written.
