What are you listening to lately???
« on: June 30, 2003, 05:20:35 PM »
I'm kinda bummed out with music that has come out in the past few years. there seems to be no emotion or feeling in it. (BTW i am a musician some what)

yeah the "grunge" (i HATE that word) movement is dead... but i am longing for the pearl jam feeling of "alive" or "release".

i got into jewel for obvious reasons ;) and Dave matthews, but other than that i find that without an MP3 player in my car i listen to "Light FM" radio driving home from work  or "classic rock".

now my music tastes go from big band to country to slayer to emo to techno to ambient to anything in between (except most R&B i hate). i'll even listen to jazz though i dont like bee-bop or fusion jazz.

my mp3's are getting stale (all 1500 of em) :(

anyone got something obscure but intelligent that i can try out?

Ps. .... i might not be the best "practicing" christian... but i WONT listen to system of a down or godsmack (not only doen their music suck but is morally corrupt)

any suggestions?

the same tape has been in my cassette player in my car for 4 months.... Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dream... to give you an idea of my music taste

I like all the Radiohead stuff.

Get an MP3 player with a tape adapter.  Nomad Zen or I-Pod or whatever.  You can put all those CDs on the player and listen in your car.

Filter's always been a saving grace for me.   They rock... pure and simple.  And I don't get tired of'em.

The music in the Milwaukee area radio stations suck arse.  96.5 is always good, but I find they play the saaaaaame artists alllll the tiiiiime.

102.1 plays nothing but the *new, non-emotion ***** (ie, the thousands punk clones, and other new crap I just can't stand)  They remind me of the KISS FM of rock... owned by corporate America.  WLUM, 102.9 is decent, but I also see them going the route of 102.1.

Whenever I drive west to Madison, the automatic choice is 101.5 (forgot the call letters).  A great mix of my favs with an ever-loving dose of classic rock.

Might I suggest not going for a specific genre, but start looking for specific groups.  Skimming my collection... Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Boston, Kansas, Huey Lewis, Ozzy, good ol' Phil Collins, Cheap Trick,  Filter, Rage, Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Styx, Supertramp, Yes, The Ramones, The Who, Tom Petty, U2, Warrant, Van Morrison, RUSH... just to name a few (er, a lot)

MP3.com also has a ton of artists just looking for attention...

however, MP3.com was a nice sight up until recently (maybe a few months?)  They're asking for money and supposedly throw some hidden adware onto your HD.

As far as eletronica goes.. trance has my interest.  Some good mixes can be found at http://www.mjduke.com .  Some HUGE 80+ minute mixes can be found there.   DJ mjDuke and DJ Tiesto are nice.

that, or if you don't want to spring for a MP3 player I'm positive you can get an adapter that goes into the casette player for your CD player.

I got fed up with the recent crap music too. It looks to be on an upturn though, I've just a few minutes ago finished putting in an order for this lot:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
Delta Goodrem - Innocent Eyes (bit of speculation, heard one song live, though it was cool, chick with a piano and a bloke on an acoustic).
Hellacopters - High Visability (mad scandanavians with guitars)
Feeder - Echo Park (building up my back catalogue, Comfort in Sound is TOP, thouroghly recommend)
Evanescence - Fallen (bought as a present, but I'll probably listen to it 1st)
The Darkness - Permission to Land (pre order. Heard one song so far and it was nuts in a good way)
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Audioslave - Audioslave (RATM minus Zack with Chris Cornell fronting)
Blur - Think Tank

I hope to like at least 1/2 of them :)

I could run off a long list of music. However most you will never find. I have a very eclectic taste in music also.

Here is a tex mex band you may find great stuff. The Iguanas
Check ebay if you dont find it in the music store.

A religious band I think old stuff really good. Dreams so real.
They had 2 discs out I had to find them on ebay. I had one looked for the other for years before I saw it on ebay.

Here is a great band they had a few discs out best one is title disc. Treat Her Right. Hard to find again look on ebay.

If you like these I run off some others.

That's the system I just set up in my car. Got a 15Gig iPod, which snaps into a holder on my dash. Then bought a Belkin unit - it plugs into the cig lighter with one wire going into the iPod which powers it and gets the audio signal, and the other wire goes into the auxiary input on the car's CD player. If your car CD player doesn't have an aux input in the front, you can get an adapter and use the player's CD changer input which most players have.

The quality of going direct is ten times better than using a casette adapter.

I'm loving the system... some 4,000 songs so far, a couple of button pushes away... and it's a snap to add more songs and remove songs I aint listening to anymore, etc. When I leave the car I grab the iPod and the CD player faceplate and there's nothin' to steal.

I downloaded "Convoy" from Kazaa and now am singing the chorus over and over in my underwear. Weird huh?

'Cause we got a little convoy
Rockin' through the night.
Yeah, we got a little convoy,
Ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way.
We gonna roll this truckin' convoy
'Cross the U-S-A.
Convoy!
