Holy Crap.
Forsberg, Sakic, Hejduk, Blake, Tanguay, and now Selänne and Kariya?
If Aebischer plays even average in net, they will win another cup or two.

Egads.  Well, they'd damn well better win the Cup with that team.

At least now the teams who were fighting to get into the playoffs might get in.  Instead of losing to the Ducks and the Avs, now you only get blown away by the Av's 10-0 and probably beat the Ducks.  That 2 points won and 2 lost vs losing all 4.

Just wait, Joseph will be in Colorado next.  I can see it now "Hey Cujo, we signed Hasek again so you are the backup now.  You of course could wave your no-trade clause and we could send you to the Av's... yeah, they have more offense than half the league combined".

Too bad for the Ducks fans though... Stanley Cup finals one year, nobody you can even recognize the next.  The league should be embarassed for letting, actually promoting, the pilfering of a team like the Ducks by the Av's.

Yep Sharks had a fire sale too, despite selling out every game for years.  I'd hate to see the NHL become like baseball, where the highest bidder wins.

They made a series of salary dumping trades from midseason onward.  New owners are cheap.  First they won't pay Nabby and Stuart and then they get rid of the two best players on the team for salary reasons.

The whole direction of the game is poor though and it might get worse.  this just proves that the "Haves" managed to scam a guy like Kariya out of the Ducks and not even have to trade for him in prospects/cash/draft picks.  Teams like the Ducks/Pens will simply become farm teams for the teams with richer markets and owners (not that it hasn't been at least a little bit this way already).  The Pens are a laughing stock anyway.

Now, the league is talking about cleaning up the game too, making it more open for the talent to shine (name the last time someone had 140 points?).  So, a guy like Sakic, Kariya, Selanne, etc comes out and might each get 120 points for the Av's.. crazy.  The Av's didn't need that, the Ducks/Sharks did.

What a shame... just imagine a team like the Wild.  They rely on a tight defensive style to contain offensive teams, a couple of talented guys to get key goals, and the hard-work of a host of cast-offs from other teams.  The league will effectively end the defensive style, make the valuable guys bait for "Have" teams to take away at will, and leave a group of hard-working but overpowered veterans for fans to watch get punished each night.

Dude I would give you Cujo for a donut after his performance in last year's playoffs.  Never did like the guy much and he has always been known for not showing up in the playoffs.  He killed the Wings last year.

Hockey is the most fun sport to watch IMO.

salary caps next year should help a lot.
it's one thing they could learn from the NFL.

as for hard-work, I agree Soda.  Nothing more impressive than to watch hard workin over acheivers.

I have to admit I hate it when the Av's sit back and try to use pure talent (read show-off) instead of just working hard and as a team.  when  they work hard I'm proud of them regardless.

as shown last year, top players do not a team make.

I would do that deal.  I love Marty Lapointe.  He was a tough little bastage when he played with the Wings before.

I suspect Cujo will go to the Av's for nada, maybe a draft pick or some cash.  Remember, the Wings have to convince Cujo to remove his no-trade clause and the only way he will likely do that it to be traded to a contender.  The Av's are certainly that and I suspect Cujo could be pretty easily moved there with little fuss.  The Av's probably don't want to pick up his salary though, at least not all of it, so would probably either get some $$ from the Wings to cover part of it, or dump someone they didn't want any more just to free up a couple of bucks.

If Disney wanted to sell the Ducks they should have done it before they gutted the team.

I can't wait to see a Av's vs Penguins game.. that poor rookie Pens goalie might be shell shocked at the end of it.
