The second big decision upon joining the AH community - other then entering your callsign   - will be the choice of countries I suppose.

Now I remember we' ll have
The Knights
and
The Bishops to choose from. But I can't remember the third choice...argh.

Anyhow: I'm 99% sure that I'll be a Knight

(I remember that I didn t like the third option).

Sooo..whose side will you be on gals and guys?

Knights, Rooks, and Bishops.

Being an Athiest/Agnogstic? (Don't go for organized religion, especially ones that say it is okay to kill for god (not going to argue religion)) I can't be a bishop.

I know the vast quantities of you will flock to "Knights" of the Air, to go with your chilvarous image of yourselves.

But being a stubborn, hard headed individual I will have to go with being a Rook.

Awww, c'mon Downtown.  I think with you being agnostic/athiest joining the Bishop country is a nice bit of irony

I'll probably go rook, since others will flock to knight.

JG 301 for sure!!! They had to bear a lot of the "Reichsverteidigung" from '43 to '45! But is has been the first squad to be equipped with the Ta 152-H-0 and the Ta 152 Ha-1.
I bet you will be scared by this plane!!!

well yall correct me if im wrong but didnt chess come to europe during the invasion of the christian/jewish/muslim holy land? really not a christian game at all just another thing swiped from the arabs.and the muslims dont have a preist class. or anything like a bishop.

i think bishop is just a name given to it buy my  klllin for fun in the name o the lord ansestors .although i can see your point.(anyone know if the arabic version of the game is still around? would love to hear about it)

when i first saw the idea about countrys being named like chess pieces i didnt like it ,(being used to the generic color thing.)
and i still think a 3 way war is a little silly. (unless one side is finland hehe)
but i like the idea more on reflection. we seem to have names and designations that companys have gone out of the way to make meaningless, (i guess the whole nova thing in mexico scared um all).

in war and peace groups of men always have uniting symbols, doesent matter what it is.  it is a univesal thing not being a brain doc i dont know why and a color usualy dosent qualify. i think it is a savy thing they have done.it works on several levels

1.you have in chess the 3 pieces all about equal in strength but totaly different in tactical use.

2.knights, you can guess that alot of the new young guys are gonna go knights cause frankly most young people have have no idea what a rook is and probably think bishop is a character from alien the movie.   (no offence to the hellfire sqd, im shure they have other reasons than its the only word they know of the 3 hehe)

3.bishops could open up flight sims to a whole new demographic, the bible belt in the south is full of radical warlike christains who could use a hate vent. if might lighten them up a little.

4.rooks, seems like the ugly duckling as far as the sound of the word (and it rimes with crooks hehe) so, well, i like it, go figure.

If you boys get the TA 152

the Queens should get the Tempest II (basically a Sea Fury..the MIG Killer!) the Supermarine Spiteful and Spit Mk 24, a Bearcat and the late WWII/Korea model P51s and P47s.

wet your pants LW!

Well I guess chess pieces have different names in every country. In the original, arab game the rook was a war-chariot<sp?> BTW.
In German the bishop is called Läufer or runner.
The rook is called Turm (tower) and the knight is Springer (jumper) although some people call it "Pferd" (horse).
This is frankly my reason for choosing the knights: I ve been riding horses for 23 years now and I love them.

When I first saw the choice of countries I thought: "This is silly..everyone's gonna go Knights". On second thought I guess this won't be true. I mean in WB there ARE a lot of guys flying for purple and being the same colour as Barney is certainly worse than being a rook or a bishop.

Very easy to decide....

I will fly for the country that has the least ammount of plays. This way i shouldnt have any problems finding a fight.

If you have 30 guys flyin for 1 counrty and 6 guys flying for another,How much skill is involved for the 30 guys to kill the 6

If the 6 guys learn the skill needed to kill the 30,who is better off at the end of the tour. Learning curve will be a lot less steeper

you have no idea how long i spent goin over the paragraph on the king queen pawn  theory hehe til i figured hehe "nothin wrong with that" as far as the queen and it throws the cool analogy of equal power but different aplication to each side off ( 2 royals 1 barney err grunt)

hehe

Oh man, I can see it now.  Almost everyone will want to be knights.  There will be some rooks (Forecast: 6 weeks of "I got rooked again!" in radio buffer), and there will be one bishop, but that notwithstanding, most people in the arena will spend as much time as possible beating him.
"Damn gangbangers!"
