well yall correct me if im wrong but didnt chess come to europe during the invasion of the christian/jewish/muslim holy land? really not a christian game at all just another thing swiped from the arabs.and the muslims dont have a preist class. or anything like a bishop.
i think bishop is just a name given to it buy my klllin for fun in the name o the lord ansestors .although i can see your point.(anyone know if the arabic version of the game is still around? would love to hear about it)
when i first saw the idea about countrys being named like chess pieces i didnt like it ,(being used to the generic color thing.)
and i still think a 3 way war is a little silly. (unless one side is finland hehe)
but i like the idea more on reflection. we seem to have names and designations that companys have gone out of the way to make meaningless, (i guess the whole nova thing in mexico scared um all).
in war and peace groups of men always have uniting symbols, doesent matter what it is. it is a univesal thing not being a brain doc i dont know why and a color usualy dosent qualify. i think it is a savy thing they have done.it works on several levels
1.you have in chess the 3 pieces all about equal in strength but totaly different in tactical use.
2.knights, you can guess that alot of the new young guys are gonna go knights cause frankly most young people have have no idea what a rook is and probably think bishop is a character from alien the movie. (no offence to the hellfire sqd, im shure they have other reasons than its the only word they know of the 3 hehe)
3.bishops could open up flight sims to a whole new demographic, the bible belt in the south is full of radical warlike christains who could use a hate vent. if might lighten them up a little.
4.rooks, seems like the ugly duckling as far as the sound of the word (and it rimes with crooks hehe) so, well, i like it, go figure.
