need P-47 help Lephturn & Drex!
« on: May 13, 2001, 06:56:00 PM »
am looking forward to flying the P-47D-11 razorback when it gets here and am practicing a bit on the p47d25 & 30 but having trouble fighting any decent flyer 1v1 or 2 v 1  even Co e or less. seems any turning or zooming for a shot and I loose all E and angles instantly

still have ok K/d of like 3/1 but need help learning how to "roll around" in the jug and point the 50 cal where it needs to go.

help!

Fester was my in game name until September 2013

I am not in the same league as the guys you are mentioning. But I fly the P-47D-25 and would be happy to work with you 1 v 1 or MarkAT and I could set up a 2 v 2 or 2 v 1 for you in the Training Arena. Be happy to let you shoot me down   but I will make it as hard as I can for you.

Cit,

I'm in no way qualified to have a valid 2 cents here...but I read some comments from robert johnson somewhere about "stuffing the elbow"...basically he would roll away from turn and push down and thru pointing jug to "elbow" of bogies turn...using roll rate and rudder to get nose pointed ahead of bogie. Then unload and zoom in for shot and pull up and over path...think some mention in shaw under 1 vs 1 disimiliar planes.

Two thing Cit.

1. Never turn with your nose up in a Jug.

2. Use Flaps! ( never more than two notches and none when pointed downwards )

Maybe Cit will have some respect for P47 pilots now.

Go away from my plane, the P47 doesn't need you.

Well, to be honest I'm not that good when it comes to a duel situation.  My SA is pretty good most times, and honestly I win fights that way most times.  When it comes to a 1v1 co E... I'm not silly enough to engage.    Flying the Jug means having an E advantage.  Period.  If you don't, the best you can do is make 'em overshoot or surprise them with a very agressive move.

Now for the overshoot part and the 1v1 part, Drex is definately the man.  He has a particular move that I can pick out instantly when I see it, and it is very effective.  I'll let him tell you about it, but basically it's noting more complex than an oblique scissors that he starts nose up.

Other than that, the Jug is just a pure E fighter.  It maintains E very well at speed, but it doesn't gain E back well at all.  That means if you blow your E advantage, you are dogmeat.  The key to the Jug is using the vertical and lag pursuit to maintain position on a better turning bandit until you can use your good instantaneous turn to burn your E advantage for a kill.  The trick is judging E states, and knowing when you've blown it and it's time to bug out.

I'll recommend you set up a session with Drex.  I'd be glad to help if you wish, but honestly in a 1v1 situation your just gonna smack me around.  I think Drex is the just the anvil you need to hone your Jug skills against.

Went online to grab some films for you cit.  This flight was just a warm up flight, but it turned into some low E stuff.  Not an exceptional hop, but one that shows some good geometry in a tough pinch.  Gunnery stinks in it, but oh well.

Sent the film to Hooligan to post the link

Sending that email soon

Drex...

The 357th will be switching to Rook for the rest of this tour. We hope to fly with you and the Blue Knights for pointers on the p47 and also with hblair to get some pointers on the 109. need to learn the quik reverse, i have been using keyboard rudders since 1989 in AW-DOS and im not sure if this is whats making quik reverses hard if not impossible.

This switch is a learning thing, we will switch back to Bish after this tour. Unless there are some heavy Bribes

Dog out............
