Stop that!!!

:)

My point is that for me personally, I wanna play, not work. I already work....the con is decompression for me.

Now if someone wants to step up like Jordi did, I think thats great...however, it's not a liscense to dictate that others are obligated to do the same.

The Best Con ever was Boa's effort in 98....maybe you guys should call him:)

I totally agree.

I don't think anyone would want to attend a Con coordinated by the FDBs.

My point is that 3 things will happen for next years CON.

1. Hitech decides to run and host it themselves like they have done in the past.

2. A group in / around Dallas offers to run and host the con for them in / around the Dallas area.

3. A group NOT in TX offers to run and host it in some other city / state.

There could be right now several groups already hatching ideas to run and host next years con.

All I am doing is pointing out that if it can be done ONCE by someone then it could be done again.

I hope someone looks at what I did and says - Geez I could do a MUCH BETTER JOB and runs with the idea.

Hey, Jordi, how about doing a quick write-up of things that need to get done to run a con, with some advice based on your experience.

I figure:

- find a hotel.  Ok, how much capacity should it have?  Anything a con-runner should beware of in the hotel agreement?  What snafus did you get?  How many people attended the con?

- find entertainment.  So is it worth renting a bus to the airshow?  What sort of clauses should the bussing agreement have?  What problems did you encounter?  What was the level of interest in that?  How many attendees went?

- lining up speakers.  Got any names and/or addresses of people that had expressed interest in giving presentations at the Indy con but couldn't make it for some reason?  Got any email addresses for WW2 veteran associations?

- dinner.  What should a con-runner look for in finding a caterer?

- miscellaneous.  How much time did you spend on average per week in returning calls, lining up stuff, verifying registration, counting money, etc. ?  How big of a hassle would it be, and can one person do it all or should a con-runner recruit some assistance?

I'm thinking if I did it in Orlando, most of the hotel convention stuff would be kind of standard, since its such a touristy/business convention type town.  The downside is I live an hour or so away so most of my legwork would be by phone and email.  Would it be better to do it my town or find someone in Orlando to do it?

... or I could just keep reading this thread's subtle insults and imagined offenses.

If it is done in TX ( or elsewhere ) - I think a group of players should STEP UP and VOLUNTEER TO RUN AND HOST it ( Like I did in Indy ) this will allow the crew at HTC come and actually ENJOY themselves instead of WORKING to pull the CON off.

Call me crazy but I thought that (or elsewhere)  coulda meant somewhere besides Texas.Silly me.

It was referring to HTC running it vs someone else.  Or elsewhere was in parentheses for a reason.  Read the first line silly.  Read every other response silly.  Really... reading comprehention is not that difficult.

Or try this: find one that mentions another location by name.
