Okay.. Who's heard this guy Bubba the Love Sponge? He's supose to compete against Howard Stern..
He can call himself a competitor, but there's no competition. Howard Stern is much more entertaining and well-connected with the stars. Bubba is a pretender who relies on shock value to make up for his lack of personality and skill.
Bubba used to host the evening program at 93.3 in Tampa back when they were "The Power Pig" station and doing their "Screw the Q" promotion against their rival WRBQ 105 when Q105 was mainstream pop and doing their "Q Morning Zoo" bit. Bubba was yanked and re-assigned to another radio station (one of the heavy rock stations owned by the ClearChannel Communications conglomerate) as part of the 93.3 reformatting to mainstream pop club music. He hosted the evening program on the heavy metal station and I never listened to him. As far as I know, he's muddled along in mediocrity there and rumor is that he's a relative of some ClearChannel Comm executive, which is why he hasn't been fired yet.
About a year ago he was brought up on animal cruelty charges for airing a live castration of a bull in the radio station parking lot. I'm surprised he didn't get fired for that one. Then again, in the radio station biz, bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.
Shortly after Bubba was moved to the heavy metal station, Q105 switched formats to country music and the "Q Morning Zoo" leader Mason Dixon was hired/reassigned to the U92 Oldies Rock station (50's, 60's, 70's music). Then he was switched to another Oldies Rock station to boost ratings there.
In the Tampa market, I'd estimate the popularity of DJs as:
Mason Dixon of 102.5 (simply because he's been in this market forever)
MJ of 93.3 (0wnz the morning show market)
Ron Diaz of Thunder 103.5 (another long-term market staple)
Everybody else
