Okay..  Who's heard this guy Bubba the Love Sponge?  He's supose to compete against Howard Stern..

Anyhow, this guy's program got stuck on our local hard rock station.  And what I heard this am about floored me..  Hopefully some of you guys from the Tampa area will speak up.

I normally do not listen to this station anymore since they've put him on. I guess he's now sindicated nation wide...down to my issue. The SOB is having phone sex on the air!!! I wonder howmany kid's heard this this morning.  It completely honk's me off. I was so pissed that I've e-mailed the program director.

I dunno...perhaps I was out of line.. what do you guy's think?

Ya can pretend you're him and save the 2.99 per minute. Work within the system. Adapt and overcome.

Really. Especially when you can SEE his show on E! at 11pm.

I miss the old WBCN.  The station hasn't been the same since they had Howard come onboard in the morning time slot.

He can call himself a competitor, but there's no competition.  Howard Stern is much more entertaining and well-connected with the stars.  Bubba is a pretender who relies on shock value to make up for his lack of personality and skill.

Bubba used to host the evening program at 93.3 in Tampa back when they were "The Power Pig" station and doing their "Screw the Q" promotion against their rival WRBQ 105 when Q105 was mainstream pop and doing their "Q Morning Zoo" bit.  Bubba was yanked and re-assigned to another radio station (one of the heavy rock stations owned by the ClearChannel Communications conglomerate) as part of the 93.3 reformatting to mainstream pop club music.  He hosted the evening program on the heavy metal station and I never listened to him.  As far as I know, he's muddled along in mediocrity there and rumor is that he's a relative of some ClearChannel Comm executive, which is why he hasn't been fired yet.

About a year ago he was brought up on animal cruelty charges for airing a live castration of a bull in the radio station parking lot.  I'm surprised he didn't get fired for that one.  Then again, in the radio station biz, bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.

Shortly after Bubba was moved to the heavy metal station, Q105 switched formats to country music and the "Q Morning Zoo" leader Mason Dixon was hired/reassigned to the U92 Oldies Rock station (50's, 60's, 70's music).  Then he was switched to another Oldies Rock station to boost ratings there.

In the Tampa market, I'd estimate the popularity of DJs as:

Mason Dixon of 102.5 (simply because he's been in this market forever)
MJ of 93.3 (0wnz the morning show market)
Ron Diaz of Thunder 103.5 (another long-term market staple)
Everybody else
Bubba The Love Sponge

I do. He comes on just in time for launch for Friday TOD missions. Then its "Wild On..." with Cindy Taylor in a bikini and a bunch of scantily clad girls acting drunk, dancing badly, and going "Woooooo!" for the cameras.

he was arrested for killing a pig in his parking lot

the guy's a retard with retards for his audience - just another sign of moral decay of the country/world in general - don't let it bother you :)

He was on Monsters of the Mid-day.  Cool show now that he's been gone.  But, really he has screwed the morning drive to the office. Now, I'm stuck listening to John-Boy & Billy.. least they make me laugh.

Or -gag- the am "light music"     I WANT MY ROCK-N-ROLL..  heheh

I used to listen to John-Boy and Billy, but I got tired of the too-thick countryboy accent mixed with rock-n-roll.  Its as if they overplayed their "we're Southern" bit too much.  And there wasn't much useful information coming out of them anyway.

I usually start with http://www.mjmorningshow.com and if that gets boring I'll just keep punching buttons until I hit a good tune.  And if that fails I flip over to AM radio and listen to the sports wrap-up shows.
