As far as trying to maintain a more modern lifestyle, it seems like alot of work. Perhaps too much. Trying to maintain complicated equipment might work for a couple of years, but probibly wouldn't be feasable after that.
i didn't intend to keep it going forever... just for a while until you can wean yourself off of them. most of the "equipment" i discussed was just for living for about 10 years. i figure @ 30 yrs old like me 15 years is alot to ask with out going insaine or succumbing to a disease.
like i mentioned earlier ... the biggest thing about this particular scenario most miss is disease and radation. the impact man has on the animal world in the US is so enormous that the loss of man would be devastating.
sick and malnourished animals would spread disease unchecked, especially in the deer herds not culled by hunters. there is a brain disease in the deer here in Wisco. thats like the mad cow disease. they tried to kill all infected deer.. but all you need is 1 to get away.
also cows.... they dont milk themselves. they dont feed themselves. they dont give birth un-assisted. the giant cow herds would starve to death in their corrals and the rotting flesh would attract scavengers from miles away.
i would recommend against eating anything living except maybe fish from the ocean if this happened.
i wish i knew more about the fallout from chernobyl, but im too lazy too look up boring data reports lol. i would guess that the water table within 1000 miles would be ruined. not to mention the crops and animals.
somone mentioned hawaii... what about volcanos destroying waht took you years to build up? what about tropical bugs and diseases? is there a nuclear plant on the islands?
