the bridge objects in the current editor are bugged and cannont be used to cross water tiles.

Nuttz may have some custom bridges that work.

You can skin a road or runway to look like water and place it down first then set your bridge on it. But boats wont be able to pass underneath.

There were some good bridges on the Niemen map.  I forget who made that, though.  IIRC, it was made with runways or roads that were positioned in the air, and the pylons were stuck in the water to look like piers.  Most of the bridges on this map actually worked.  None of my own attempts have been successful.

It seems to me that the whole trick to building bridges over water tiles is crossing the grid lines on both sides of the water tile.  The bridge as a whole as to go from a point on land on 1 side, over the water, and onto land on the other side.  But because objects can't cross grid lines, you have to break the roadway up into sections and position them very carefully right at the grid line but not on it.  I've never gotten this to work right.  When I avoid the grid lines, I have a tiny gap and vehicles fall through it even though it's only a few inches wide at their scale.

Try placing a tower next to the bridge.

The way HiTech created the game.... no clutter objects come within a certain distance of a tower.
the problem with bridges , the ground clutter object will "crash" a vehicle if it crosses the bridge OVER a ground clutter object. If you put a tower near the bridge it eliminates the ground clutter objects and then the bridges work. I have many bridges, all custom, and custom skinned. I inverted the bridge upside down and reskinned it to rock and brick so it can be used to cross a valley rather than a flat tile.
