Abuse of the practise area
« on: September 16, 2000, 11:18:00 PM »
Is there a procedure for complaining about disruptive behaviour in the game?
I have been trying to get some practice in the training area for two hours now, but there is the minor problem of an experienced pilot slaughtering newbies. It is not a very 'safe' environment when you are shot up on the runway repeatedly merely because you are new and some pilots want kills, not a challenge. Someone help!
If possible, I'd like to report this "psycic" (his spelling, not mine) for ruining the game for those of us who are actually taking it seriously.

Help!!

Did you ask him to stop? There is usually a field in the TA that is used as an ffa field. It pays to steer clear of these fields if youre wanting to do some practice.

Also, look in the roster for a trianer. They will help you out.

hblair, its the training arena.. you shouldn't have to ask him to stop.  That's not what the training arena is about.

Cain, send the person's id to HTC with an explanation of what happened.  If it begins to happen in the future.. hit <alt-r> to start recording the event and then mail that to HTC.

Thanks hblair, but we tried that.
I realise this may seem petty, but the fact that the practise arena is more deadly than the main arena is a serious problem for Aces High - and has seriously damaged my resolve to become a competent AH pilot (I can hear Mig Alley calling already...)
I know this community is not short of newbie pilots, but if this behaviour isn't controlled somehow, it's future is at risk.
I can glean no enjoyment from being blown apart whilst rolling down the runway at 50mph , and I doubt many other newbies can either.
Surely something can be done about these people - maybe a dot command similar to join but for consent?

Wow I took a long time to type that, thanks all you guys, I'll see what happens.

Thanks for your concern, and sorry - I know there have been posts here about whiners, didn't mean to be one of them :-)

What ya should or shouldn't have to do doesn't have anyhting to do with what I'm talking about. I'm just talking about what usually works.

I spend a lot of time in the TA myself. There is usually a field where the ffa is going on, usually default field. For serious flying and training with friends, trainers, etc. You should go to another field.

This guy is probably on his free two weeks and just doesn't give a rip. Is that right? of course not, but thats just the way it is. You can go through the trouble of typing up an email, finding the screenshot, reduce the file size, attach it, send it, etc. Then pyro checks his mail, and among the big hundred or so emails he gets every day, he'll have to read and deal with this one too.

Sure, I occasionally report someone to pyro or to the instructors bbs, but I reserve those for the worst of the bad apples.

To sum it up, I'd advise just moving to another field when ya log on for serious stuff. If he gets beligerent, I'd do the screenshot thingy.

BTW cain, we don't think you're a whiner. I just hope this negative incident doesn't influence you to go to another simm.

We'd be glad to have ya here.

Well, blow me down.
Don't take this the wrong way, hblair, but am I right in thinking that when I want to practise, I should go to the practise arena and run with my tail behind my legs to another airfield? That the practise arena is actuall a FFA arena? That all these newbies with zero experience should somehow know all this?
I'm sorry, but AH is a commercial product. HT have placed a sign in there with RULES on it. I don't think just because some people have been playing AH for longer that they have the right to elbow out the newbies. We have just as much right to be here as the rest of you.  I would say HT agrees, because they made a training area for newbies and a proper warzone for the rest.  If you want FFA, they also provided a H2H option.
If you people insist on fighting it out in the training area, why don't YOU go to another airfield?
And you're right, I am still on my trial period. Er, does that mean anything aside from the fact that I like this game? I am not obliged to play it in order to justify the cost, I've been playing because I like the idea of a realistic multiplayer flsim.
Well, I liked the idea a lot more yesterday, anyway.
I know newbies are second class citizens in elitest communities such as this one, but could you lot please remember that you were a newbie too at some point, and have some consideration for others.

sorry hblair, but it really shouldn't be necessary.  That's what it says when you log into the training arena.

Its not the fault of the newbie loggin in for not bringing it up.

The newbie is not responsible for finding a field other than default to launch from.  The people doing the furballing are.

That is the way the training arena should be.  If its not, then the trainers aren't really get the point across adequately and HTC should handle it.

Caine is 100% in the right.  People who disobey the POSTED RULES in the Training Arena shold be dealt with STRICTLY by HTC.

OK, here we go again...

First off, cain you misread my post (or I mistyped it)...

I was referring to the other guy, not you. I'm on your side. If the guy wronged you, report him. If he vulched you and wouldn't stop, report him. If hes a general amazinhunk, report him.

I was just saying that some of those types don't give a rip, and it might be less troublesome just going to the tower and clicking on the next field over. Its not like it is some kind of chore. A mouse click is all. A rule of thumb is, if you join the TA, more than likely the field you default to will have some ffa going on. They may be nice guys, they may not. To be sure, I just go to another field.

As far as the ffa goes, thats just the way some guys practice. Granted, they obviously shouldn't be shooting new guys on the runway, etc. if the new guys arent ok with it.

I get in some ffa with citabria and a few other guys in the TA at times. We shoot each other on the runway. Its funny as hell to us, I was rolling in the floor when citabria nailed me OTR like 8 times straight. If someone else enters the area, they are informed that is an ffa area. This is just what we like to do. It works wonders for SA.

Caine:

I think you may have misunderstood hblair...
when he referred to a person on a trial period, I think he meant the user who was shooting you.

I think that he just meant that since this guy who was shooting you was a "2 week free user", he might not care if he gets kicked off. By the time the complaint is dealt with HIS 2 weeks might already be over.

Newbies=2nd class..I don't think so.
No newbies...maybe no Aces High.
In my experience..(since beta)..many, if not most, vets are willing to help newbies out.

I agree COMPLETELY with AKDejavu.

Hang in there Caine and good luck !

Caine, if you want to try to get your legs under you I'd be happy to act as a target for you.

I'm not an official HTC trainer, but I'd love to help extend the good side of this community to you.
