I agree about an early '38, but why the F over the G or H?

AFAIK there were more Gs made than Fs. Not sure if there
were appreciable performance differences.

I would also like to see the P-39 in AH. There's a 37mm cannon for you (and in a combat ready airframe) Ack-Ack. I don't think the D was approved for, or used in combat. Interesting though, I bet not many know that the early '38 had a 37mm.

True, there were only 66 P-38Ds and they were restricted from combat and strictly used as combat trainers.

The F model is understood to be the best of the turners out of the P-38 series. The only real difference between the F and G series was that the G had larger, more powerful Allison engines and I think the G model was the first model to have a special combat flap setting.

The P-38G is the third most numerously produced P-38 model, which does about 345 mph at 5000ft, 400mph at 25,000ft.

The P-38 F's were the first to be active in combat for prolonged periods of time in the US arsenal. They also saw long time service through most of the war, especially the PTO.

Bodhi's reasons are the reason I favor the P-38F over the P-38G.

Ideally we'll get the P-38F, P-38G and P-38J at some point, but thenext one should be the P-38F.
