Furball,
MS Flightsim is not for everyone. I like it because it feels like the kind of flying I have done and is done by most people. I like the real world navigation, the ability to set prop pitch (and see an increase in MP :) ), mixture, and power settings. I like doing ILS approaches...in short , all the things that people fly real ones for. I will admit though, if I set autopilot on a long flight I am often destined to start snoring after a bit :D

Nice. Is it compatible with 2002 add-ons?

The only thing I used FS for was IFR training. Great because you have the actual radio nav and you can "pause". "Pause" in the middle of a flight is the best learning tool:D

The flight model always looked fishy in the FS series, I was never impressed. Same with the systems. I really liked FLY when it was released because all the buttons were active and you could really practice the checklists (I used to fly the Hawker a lot).

Else, those sims are still sim and simulate real life ... climb and be bored, watch TV and come back for approach.

Does FS04 has the approach plates, SIDS and STARS integrated into the program? Does ATC finally ask you to fly IFR in a "logical way"? Did they fine tuned the "real world weather" to local areas with smoother transitions? Did they finally tuned the jets performances to real 737/747/learjet behavior? The FS02 737 FMs were a complete jocke in acceleration. Do  they have an operational FMS?
Then I may buy it.

Just out of curiosity, could you post a view of El Monte (KEMT) on final runway 19 please? I'm curious if they changed anything since FS02.
(My favorite FS02 add on was the AN2 freeware). I recall MArk AT having the paid B25 and looking beauuuuuutifull.
Dat jugs bro.

I picked it up yesterday. Can you pan the view in the virtual cockpit? Can find nothing in the documentation regarding this.

Frenchy,

If you want to go by SIDS and STARS etc., then go with VATSIM or the likes.
Nothing beats human ATC - other than always present AI ATC ;)
("Where the hell are all ATC's!?" you might ask when online)

Never used FS2002, but Ive read they did adjust the flight models somewhat for the default planes.

AKIron,

It is possible to pan AND move the viewpoint in the cockpit.
You should be able to find most of these commands from the view key assignments section.

I don't remember what pans the view, since I use the joysticks hats to pan and zoom.

However I do remember how to move the viewpoint.. but not exactly which combinations did what, except that those were connected to moving the viewpoint...
which are the following keys:
All the combinations of ctrl, shift and either enter or backspace.
shift/ctrl keys toggles the function for moving the viewpoint around.
theres three combinations: ctrl+shift+enter/backspace, shift+enter/backspace and ctrl+enter/backspace.
enter / backspace toggles the direction of movement.
I don't remember which combinations movedwhich way, but it's all those general directions: up/down, left/right, forward/backward.

You can define the default viewpoint location from the airplane cfg file.

[Views]
eyepoint=43.7, -1.31, 3.7   //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

needs some testing to get it right if you want to change the default viewpoint ;)

I havn't bought it yet but from what I am told by developers most of the addon planes from 2002 will work with 2004 but not the other way around.

Frenchy, the 2004 version alows you to click on all the buttons in vc mode :). The design has to support it though, just a couple of addons do but most are comming up with updates to the models that will allow it.
