A vehicle exploded outside a Russian military hospital near Chechnya on Friday, destroying the building, killing at least 21 people and wounding 35 others, officials said. The blast completely demolished the four-story red brick hospital in the city of Mozdok in Russia's North Ossetia region

What goes around, comes around I'm afraid. The Russians were indescriminately shelling Grozny only a few years ago. I bet they hit a few hospitals, schools, apartment buildings...

The bastards killed 27,000 - and that's a Russian government estimate.

There is also a difference between hydrogen and oxygen. Apples and oranges. War is War, attacking a hospital on purpose well that just shows what kind of war they are waging.

pooh21 - you're the guy who won't fly the Lancaster because of the terror raids, but fly all the luftwaffe planes despite them bombing the crap out of London, Warsaw, Stalingrad etc etc or their tendency to bomb little towns and villages in England. And let's not forget the refugee strafing. But then everyone knows that the luftwaffe didn't hurt anyone and were all teutonic knights fighting a war against a terrible evil.

I'm not sure what point you're making. Was there a disparity of population and territory like that between the Russian Federation and Chechnya, between the North and the South? Or perhaps you're saying Lincoln killed thousands of civilians using artillery, helicopter gunships, vacuum and fragmentation bombs? Or maybe you're saying there is no difference between total war and counter-independence intervention?

My knowledge of your civil war is quite limited, so make allowances.

Although it is not as good of a parallel as the American Civil War, where Atlanta was burned to the ground, Richmond was shelled for a year and virtually destroyed and half a million lives were lost in an effort that resulted in the greater good of removing slavery from America, another parallel exists with the British government and the IRA's efforts in NI.

The point is that intentionally bombing a hospital has no excuse, Robert E Lee had honor and even with the south in ruins would have never dreamed of hitting an hospital.

I'd like you to find a modern day example of where the British army has done anything like what the Russians did in Chechnya, in Ireland. You'd have to go back a hundred years to find anything approaching that scale. I think you'd have to go back 200 years maybe even 300-400 years, back into the days of Cromwell. The modern day equivalent would be the Royal Artillery setting up outside Belfast and pounding it to pieces - not not very likely is it?

In the here and now, what the Russians did in 1994 is as unacceptable as the recent bombing of the hospital.
