Big Isles CV toughness
« on: August 02, 2003, 07:52:06 PM »
After several CV battles over the past couple days on Big Isles, it seems at though the CV's are acting a little buggy.  In a 30 minute fight with one CV my squad landed 10 shore battery hits and at least 3k of bombs and rockets on a carrier and it still didn't go down.  Is that supposed to happen?

I've also noticed that certain CV's (C106 comes to mind) have their spawn points bugged out.  You'll end up spawning too far forward on the deck to take off a heavily loaded hog or hellcat.

Additionally there are bugs with various Vehicle hangars.  They'll have a port facility (that isn't listed on the map) adjacent to them and all the acks from that port facility will cover the vehicle hangar.  The worst part is that the manned 37mm gunner for the vehicle hangar will spawn at one of the port acks.  I didn't know this when I rolled a tiger up into on of these bases and sure enough (plink, plink, plink, KA-BOOM) invisible tracer off rounds coming from the manned ack at the nearby port blew my tiger apart (how a 37mm anti aircraft gun can hurt a tiger 1 kilometer away is another mystery).

I think this map should be pulled from the rotation until it has a few more of these issues hammered out.

IIRC, the normal amount of bombs needed to sink a CV is 8k.

Its not so hard.  I saw a pair of P-38s sink carriers on two separate occassions.  That's totally realistic, too.

I don't know about buggy CV's but the Ack is a pain in the arse. Cieling to the stars and (seems) range for ever. I don't know how many times I've been passing by a TF group at 20k and 3 miles away, only to have the engine lost to SAM like accuracy Ack round.

Seems Golden BB's are thick and fast when it comes to Ack in AH.

After further engagements it C26 appears to be the notorious super unhittable CV.  I fired two racks of rockets into it's carrier and there were no hit sprites.  I'll try to get film of this.

first of all. cv's take 8k toatal to sink, not 8k near 8 k hits. 2nd if you hit cv at seperate times first hits only count for 15 mins I believe before u need 8k more. as for 37mm  they were put in for gv defense. next time take out ack then roll to base.

Yesterday, I dropped 2000# on a VH at an airbase. Nothing. I was surprised, re-upped in an F6F to try again, and took greater care of my aim. Still nothing.

I don't usually miss once, never mind miss twice, by which time the VH should have been softened somewhat. Definitely seems buggy...

Vehicle Hangers at airbases are TOUGHER than a standalone Vehicle Hanger base. It doesn't surprise me that your 2000 lbs did not take down the VH at the airbase. It takes more than 2000 lbs to take one of those hangers down.

To explain why on your second run, it didn't go down, could be due to the fact that while you were retruning, a couple of convoys arrived and "healed" the VH back to full strength.
