Really? What game are you playing?  ;)

My experience in the "Training" arena was to appear at the spawn point, only to be vulched by some tard orbiting the field. No trainers, no helpful URL's, no nothing. So, I gave up and just jumped into the MA--I get slaugtered, but hey, @ least I'm learnin something...it would be helpful to have perhaps a training schedule posted somewhere--or is there one and I missed it?

that's right, only vets can whine about getting hispano 1-ping spray n pray'd from 700yds (and increasing fast).

;)  can't even JABO and run anymore without some guy smacking you from insane ranges.  I tell ya, what's this game coming to??

oh, btw, I have no issues with newbies asking questions, and if I do, then .squelch will come in handy.

Also, I think there is a command to ignore join requests.  dunno what it is tho

All very true, kieren...but that doens't hide the fact that they ARE annoying for some people.

And last weeks, some times the radio channel has turned into a real newbie-demanding-fest. Not to mention the casual newbie who sends you a join request wich pops up just when you are in the middle of a furball, in a 8-kill sortie, because they "want to see how you do it".

Hell I never joined someone without asking first!. Not now, and much less when I first came here. Its called "good manners".

The problem is just that, the lack of good manners by some of the new guys. Its understandable that they want to learn how to play AH, but they do in such a way that can be really irritating for some people.

I think a major portion of this would be nullified if HTC were to post a simple(printable) key config layout.

How's this?

BTW, there is a key commands reference in the help section that could be easily printed.  The problem is that nobody likes to read the instructions when they play a game.  Just accept the fact that there will always be new people coming to AH, and you help build a stronger community by helping others.  Be a good samaritan.    :p

Right on MrHanky..

One morning a few weeks ago, when only flying here for 2 months could still be considered a tin horn (before AW influx), i shot down a well established AH pilot several times.

Each time the excuse was something new, not that i out flew him. Wouldnt want to admit the "new guy" around the MA got the best of you.

First time he was "out of gas".

Second "out of ammo" (which was ammusing since he was dog fighting me and didnt get a chance to shoot once, why would you go that far with out ammo?).

third time he was "out of fuel" again..

of course the time he shot me down it was a "good fight" (which is the norm around here, only a good fight if you win) lol  :D

----------------------------

When i first started a few months ago you guys were more than generous to me, i thought you were a great bunch of guys helping me out, mostly on channel 2 in MA.
(didnt have to many stupid questions really, i had enough common sense to check out the control settings to see what most of the commands were)

I needed a lot of help in some areas because i knew nothing about AC, ACM even more so WWII AC. I try to return the favor when i can buy answering the "easy newbie" questions when i see um.

Things have changed big time, seemingly no one asks a question any more, they normaly demand a answer (speaking of the new guys).

And to boot theres a lot more of them so its not a scenerio like it was when i came aboard, maybe seeing 2-3 new guys a month.

Now its 200+ new guys in month period, thus
the quality of persons is bound to differ in that quantity.

Just try to be patient and squelch the anooying spammers.. works for me.

Windows switches (usually with alt+shift by default) from one keyboard language to another, it can be setup by going into
Settings/Control Panel > Keyboard
Look for the language/locale settings.

This works (so far) regardless of the top window/program.

Wow

I wasn't expecting 20+ replies when I signed on this morning and starting browsing the BBS.

And all very civil, might I add.  Very cool.

Superfly hit it on the head, people don't like to read the instructions.  Some do, but I think those are a vast minority.  I know the first thing I try to do in any flight sim is try to find the key layout.  (I lost the one for Falcon 4 and I am forever screwed trying to arm the laser guided bombs and adjust radar elevation!  Doh!)  That's a great keyboard guide and hopefully more folks will find it!

This is a passionate game flown by passionate people.  I love it, despite it all, I really do.  I enjoy the time I'm online flying with friends.  And I like making new friends in there as well.  But there are evenings, like I had lastr night, where you wish new fellas would observe some kind of protocols...like ASKING before attempting to join repeatedly and perhaps learning how to play in the training room, or offline.

I know there are some folks in here who are great teachers.  And bless you folks for your un-ending patience.  I haven't got that.  I'd sooner be learning how to tie a hangman's noose out of telephone cable and killing myself rather than explaining yet AGAIN what a "salvo" is   :D

You know I wish I'd grabbed a screenshot a few days ago.  I went into the Training Room to get some Me-262 landing time and saw nothing but "Victory 1 so-and-so" all over the screen, and the base I was upping from was in smoke.  Not a training related thing in the buffer, just kills galore.  But go into the Main Arena, you'd think its "Bob Villa's Learn to Fly" hour.  "How do you..." etc etc all over the Main Arena chat buffer.  LOL, shouldn't that be reversed?

So like I said from the begining, yea, I'm a bad person....I pay to play in the Main Arena, not tutor or endure a chat buffer full of tutoring...that kind of stuff is supposed to be done elsewhere.  <shrug>

BTW, someone couldn't find URLs?  I know Ripsnort had a great page full of tactics and such, and Frenchy had a good beginners page up too.  I know there are others, could those folks post em for the new guys?

I enjoyed the Special Olympics at A47 last night. 3 newbies bringing goons and dropping the drunks on the airfield after we had just explained that they needed to be dropped on the town. Next time they did drop on the town...1 dropped at about 8000ft, the other at about 8ft. The low load splattered, the high load took so long to get down that the town came back up and all the troops had grown long beards.

It would be nice for these guys to hit a key and bring up some help in-game instead of being taken to a webpage.

Raub, I saw that!  I was in a Ju88, orbiting overhead trying to keep the city down.  Man, isn't that maddening?

I beleive we had those same guys on Sunday night, dropping troops on top of an M16 at the city, wondering why the troops weren't making it to the ground.  Doh!

Apparently the loons have a weeklong pass and all joined Knights!

we usually get 2 types of newbies here, the first type is the AW and Warbirds type who have been playing sims for a while and DO read the help files and usually ask intelligent questions. The other group is the "Quake" group who just want to hop into a bird and have INSTANT ACTION, this is usually the annoying group that ask dumb questions and expect instant answers and usually after their 2 weeks are up you never see them again.

You've got newbies who are prepared to goon and you're giving them a hard time?

Smart, real smart.

I'd rather see a text buffer full of "how do I...." than a buffer full of "NEed ggoon toA# NOW" or "MISSon to A%! PLs JPOIN MISSIONM GUYS1" scrolling by every two nanoseconds.

But to yell in country and/or in open channel if you don't get an immediate, concise answer, is another thing. Unpolite, and unappropiate. The people in the MA isn't there to teach the newbies, they are there to have fun.

Each time I see a guy with that "I DEMAND people to help me" attitude, I simply forget about the guy. I even don't take the work to squelch him. Those kind of guys seem like thinking they MUST be helped no matter what. And if you aren't in the best of the moods it can get really pissing sometimes.

I saw no reference in the original post regarding rude behavior. To help others out and build a stronger community is a small price to pay.

If I were new here and read this, I would form the opinion that those posting negative remarks about new players were selfish and self centered, only willing to lend a hand the way they saw fit and not help me get through the learning curve and enjoy the sim more quickly.

Nice job!

To all of the new players...

What you see here is the bitter minority...not representative of the community...If ya need help, just ask and many will be willing to lend a hand...even if it is inconvenient.  :)
