AH vs WB duel, round 2
« on: August 11, 2003, 08:51:50 AM »
to the AH duelers.

When I read that you guys selected the Ki-61 and A6M5 for the planes, I thought it was a bad move on your part.  Without being familiar with the gunnery, you guys chose planes with short clips and weak guns? Bold move.  :)

After thinking about it for a bit, though, your decision was actually an excellent tactical move for two reasons.

1.  Both planes have a forgivable flight model.  No nasty spins unless you really yank when low on E.  Both  have decent acceleration to make up for pulling too many Gs.

2.  The average WBer has little stick time in either plane, so essentially both sides are "newbies" in the planes.

Well, except for me, I have more stick time in the Ki-61 then all duellers combined. :)

So then, that is why the AH Gods were smiling on y'all when I discoed in the 1st round! LOL

I also have alot of time in the A6M5, but decided to sit that duel out because you guys were short two players and because my connection was spotty.  Ah well, I still had fun practicing with the WB team.

to everyone, see you in the next round! (Assuming you can round up more than eight players this time? :p)

Overall lots of fun, very glad to take part in this.

Seems to me that we were always going to struggle getting pilots committed when we only had what 2 days notification of date and time.
As i understand it WB had trouble getting somebody to set it up at their end, hence late notification.
I would bet money a lot of our guys never even realised it was happening.
Hell somebody was even gonna download and install it the day before the event as they posted we were gonna be short handed.
Just a pity our guys did not have a weeks confirmation of time and place.

We did rounds 1 and 2 in AH, Correct?

Rounds 3 and 4 were to be in WBS, Correct?

Did 3 and 4 take place? If so, how did our guys do?

When and where is round 5??

Yeah, getting rounds 3 & 4 confirmed was a bit of a mess... In hindsight, we should have flown it next weekend. My bad. But even then, .... ah nevermind - too complicated and boring. As it turned out, 4 of what ended up being our team downloaded and installed WBs on Friday or Saturday.

Round one we were short-handed... 8 of us. Someone over there asked if we wanted to fly it anyway so I asked the gang and everyone said yeah - of course... Woulda been a drag to show up then just leave, no matter what it meant to the outcome.

I was useless because somewhere along the way to the merge I inadvertantly hit a function key which locked up my keyboard (toggles through stick sets?  - something like that)... I didn't have guns or views the entire time... so I just flew around hoping to distract people. Also during that round Levi's wife started yelling at him. He asked if he could auger and fend her off and I didn't want to be responsible for a homicide, so I let him go. :) Essentially there were 6 of us fighting - and we got pasted. :D

The second round I got my controls fixed and the WBers sat a couple of guys out to even the teams, and it went quite a bit better for us. Still lost - and to them.

All this being said... I know that when I look back on the duel I know it's not going to have been about the winners/losers... but of what a great time it's all been. I really thank and salute daddy for coming up with this - and that goes as well for all the great folks over there that have participated and helped to set this up. It's been alotta fun so far.

Cavalier, you seem to be somewhat mis-informed.

Anyway, this thread is not intended to degrade one side or the other.  Wether it was 10 on 10 or 8 on 8, it was a fun.

As for the score, I don't know exactly so these are off the top of my head:

Round 1, Ki-61s:  WB: 9, AH: 1

Round 2, A6M5s: WB:8, AH: 6

The second round was a slugfest for sure!  Wish I could have fought in that one.

The second round was a lot of fun :).  First round us AHers were like comets.  I latched onto someones tail off the merge, then got a check 6 and there were like 5 of y'all on me.  I was like "uh-oh" ping ping blam blam ping ping blam.

Second fight was awesome though.

Kekule i got my info from this posted on the 9th and duel was flown on the 10th and as Nash posted above 4 of those who flew the duel had to download it the day before.

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93535

I kinda doubt your guys had to contend with that when flying AH.

The time of the duel as well would almost certainly have prevented any european players taking part as it equates to 3 or 4 AM for most of the european guys.

If anything in my post or that link is innacurate then please enlighten me.

I have no interest in stirring any pot and all who took part.

Having said all that our guys did agree to fight and you kicked butt, well done.

The second round was a blast (even though i didn't really know wb very well) i stuck to my plan of keeping alt and used my a6m5 the same way id fly a spit. zoom in distract the nme that was on a teamates 6  (watch them break) and zoom back out and up , TnB and do it again, this worked great for 5-6 passes (and i managed to get some pings in) . until i miss judged the distances and tnb to soon .(in the film i see that not 1 but 2 WBers blasted me at the same time ) i went Boom .

big to all that participated and helped make this happen .

Cavalier - both sides had a week to prepare. Fact is that WB guys were practicing for week ahead of time almsot every night. Seems that AH guys didn't take it very seriously - attendance and lack of proper configuration showed. They had a week and did not prepare right - sorry - that's their own fault.

I flew for WB team and lost first 2 fights, and flew for AH team and lost last 2. I'm 0-4. What wants me ? :)

Seriously now, I came last night expecting to fly for WB team, there were 9 ( and later 8 ) AH players and I decided to help them out ( WB team had 4 extras ). Maybe if team AH took it bit more seriously, or agreed to an extra week ( WB team capitan was out ) things might have been different.

Either way, it's all for fun and I'd hate to see bad blood over this. I think all participants enjoyed it thougly.

Sorry to interfere, but i had configured all of my views/buttons myself, i was in the WB arenas for 5 days straight.  I asked some of the WB'ers for help but like always hardly anyone answered, must be because there were only 15 online at the times ..  Proper configuration is pretty hard when there is nobody to help, and i read their manual on the site, pretty hard to understand that as well.

well wildthing, i congratulate you on your discipline. If you tried training arnea in specified times trainers would help you out, but i agree, it isn't easy to be a newbie in WB those days.
Fact remains that more then 50% of the AH team were not ready for a task at hand, however, dispite that they did really well.

It's done and over with. Let's move on.
Last round in AH :)

There were actually 8 (and later 7) of us.... 2 no-shows and one had to leave. :(

I forgot to thank you for flying with us fd. Obviously you're going to wanna fly for your own team, so I really appreciate you comin' over and giving us a hand. And you did incredible. I'm not gonna go as far as to wish that your 0-4 record improves next weekend ;) ... but thanks a ton for flying with us fd.
