XP cryptography service problem with SP1
« on: August 18, 2003, 06:16:19 PM »
Father has a prebuilt WinXP machine.

Anyway he gets the msblaster worm infection, and who knows what else.
No antivirus, firewall or router.

Off we go and remove msblaster after DL the patch.

Ok so far, check windows update and some 24 megs worth need DL as he has never even considered updating before.

Start with the need to install separately SP1, DL's ok and installation commences.

Then it aborts with msg something about cannot read or validate file and to check and make sure that cryptography service is running.

Cannot remember where i checked but found Cryptography listed as auto starting and currently running.

But every time we try to install SP1 it dumps at the same point with the same message.

Ideas anybody ?
