Looks like we are a "go" for the puppy.

Jason sent me some more pictures last night and I forwarded them to the wife.  She isn't a big "dog person" but she thinks the pup is beautiful.

I think we are going to surprise the kiddies.

I will plan to pick her up in early September, which is fine with Jason.  I just can't get away until then.

The house deal is almost certain...the financing is in place, just a matter of legal wrangling now.   I told Jason that I don't expect any problems, but that I would let him know immediately if something crops up.

Thanks alot for the intro.

Good thing I whined about HOs all those moons ago.  ;)

I was impressed with that litter and wanted to keep the chocolate male. But I've got 3 right now and the yard/house just won't handle 4. I'm in the process of getting ready to sell now. Time to become a rural landowner.

You can stay here if you like; we've got spare bedrooms now.

Give me a heads up and we'll get a local AH BBQ lunch going too.

Depending on how long you stay, we can also bust some claybirds and/or visit the CAF hangar. One of our members has an F4F in his hangar... might be able to get him to open that up. He just bought a MiG 17 too....

Lots to do. Depending on when you come, early duck season might be on and you can see Chief do what Labs were bred to do. ;)

Congratulations!

Curval,
Give some notice when you come into town.

I want to make sure and make that lunch.

While I think Jess and Jim's Steak House is better than Jack Stack's, I'll still let Toad pick the place :)

Will do man.

Doing a little checking it appears that it is going to be a bit of a "hoop jumping" exercise to get the pup here...nothing too bad, but I am going to need some help.

Regs on dog importation

BBQ fight! BBQ Fight!

String, Jess's is a steak place fer pete's sake. Of course, we could do both, since Smokestack is right across the street......

Jeez... tough living here, ain't it?

Try picking just one  :)

I know, but the train going by, literally right next to the building adds to the ambiance.

Plus they serve Angus beef!

I probably have an airline approved crate that will fit her. Seems they're all over the place around here. For sale, cheap.

You also need two books, available from Amazon and you should get them and read them now.

The Art of Raising a Puppy by The Monks of New Skete

and

Retriever Training by Susan Scales

Yeah, I know you're not going to hunt her but Susan Scales wrote about the best simple book on training I have. It's great for basic obedience and has a lot of just good common sense.

Plus, your dog is going to think retrieving is the bestest game ever and since you'll end up throwing and fetching, you might as well do that in a proper way too.

Scales is great; she was a Brit and wrote very clearly. She takes 1/5th of the words to tell you what you need to know compared to the US authors.

Unfortunately, cancer got her a while back.

Curval, you've got a MAJOR PROBLEM here:

Quote
Dogs and cats under age 10 months, and dogs and cats of any age that have received only a single rabies vaccination, do not qualify for entry into Bermuda.

Check with a Vet to see if you can give such a young pup two rabies vaccinations.

I'm not sure.

Okay...I'm pissed.

It doesn't look good now.  That rule relates to rabies..and is possibly the stupidest rule I've ever heard of.

Apparently the department here WILL allow pups as young as 8 weeks to be imported from ENGLAND...but not the US.  Funny, but England had a real problem with rabies a number of years ago.  I haven't heard of any cases in the US.

Typical government stupidity.

I have a call in to the head guy but all that is going to happen is that I am going to yell and scream.  They aren't going to change a law for little old me.
